When The Raphael Hotel opened in the heart of Kansas City, it was the pioneer in the "boutique hotel" trend, offering individualistic accommodation with European charm, character, intimacy, personalized service and exceptional value. The Spanish Renaissance Revival-style structure was built in 1927, serving as a nine-story apartment building adjacent to what is now the historic Country Club Plaza district. After undergoing extensive renovation, the property reopened in 1975 as The Raphael Hotel. In 2008 the building’s original brick exterior and the wood-paneled ceiling in the hotel lobby were preserved and the entire property became non-smoking. By early Fall 2009, the hotel will have completed a full renovation of the hotel and restaurant. Renovations include the lobby, business center, all guest rooms and the addition of an exercise room, 30-person meeting room and an executive boardroom, each finished with state-of-the-art amenities. The Raphael offers easy access to a variety of downtown shops and attractions as well as Kansas City’s Convention Center, Sprint Center, Crown Center, Overland Park, Truman Sports Complex and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Special-rate packages such as Plaza Memories, Girls’ Night Out and the Romance Package reinforce The Raphael’s attention to stylized individuality and unsurpassed pampering.
