Hotel St. Francis
   Santa Fe, New Mexico

The rustic, historic downtown section of Santa Fe is graced with one of the state's most inviting hotels, the St. Francis. The origin of this building is tied to the De Vargas Hotel, built in the 1880s. When it was destroyed by fire, the owners rebuilt a new property in 1923, joining a neighboring two-story building built in 1888 on the north side of town with a new three-story building to create the St. Francis, an Early California mission-style structure with a distinctly European flair. During the 1930s and 1940s, when the state capitol was across the street, the hotel served as a popular gathering place for politicians.

Today, the front porch and many of the guest rooms afford stunning views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, offering easy access to a wide array of Santa Fe attractions, from downtown shopping to year-round outdoor activities like skiing, hiking and mountain biking. Each distinctly decorated room and suite features high ceilings and casement windows and is furnished with brass or iron beds and period pieces in cherry and oak. Baths feature original hexagonal tile and porcelain or marble pedestal sinks, details that perfect St. Francis' feel of Old Europe within the rustic setting of "the town different."

Guided walking tours of historic Sante Fe depart daily from the hotel’s lobby.
