With the coming of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in 1866, the small town of Bryan, named after the nephew of Texas pioneer Stephen F. Austin, flourished from an early settlement colony into one of Texas’ most-established farm and ranching regions. This fame was further enhanced when Texas A&M University was established in Bryan’s twin city, College Station.
With such rapid advancement, Bryan soon needed a major hotel, and in 1928 the seven-story brick LaSalle Hotel was built. The hotel is now owned by the city of Bryan, which temporarily closed the property for a $6 million renovation before reopening in September of 2000. The Main-Street-style boutique hotel now boasts an all-original terrazzo lobby floor and individually appointed guest rooms, each outfitted with period antiques and reproductions to give each room a distinct feel without sacrificing any of the state-of-the-art amenities expected by today’s worldly traveler.
