The Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club is right out of the Florida of your mind. The salmon-colored Mediterranean Revival building opened in 1925 and has overlooked Tampa Bay ever since. Though it has endured a number of incarnations, from a training facility for military cooks to relative disrepair in the late 1970s, today’s Vinoy Resort has no equal, thanks in large part to a $93-million restoration and a 1992 expansion that added an impressive guest tower and an 18-hole golf course designed by Ron Garl. The only luxury resort on Florida’s west coast, the Vinoy also has a private 74-slip marina, a 12-court tennis complex, five restaurants, a 5,000-square-foot fitness center, 361 recently renovated guest rooms and a shuttle to St. Pete’s Beach. The property is also located near most of western Florida’s central attractions like the Dali Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and two bay beaches.
