The Lighthouse Inn, Resort and Conference Center
   New London, Connecticut

The Lighthouse Inn Resort and Conference Center was built by steel magnate Charles S. Guthrie in 1902 overlooking Long Island Sound. The Mediterranean-style mansion forms a half circle so that every room of the mansion has either a view of Long Island Sound or of the formal gardens, designed by Central Park's famed landscape architect, Fedrick Law Olmsted. The Inn comprises two buildings: the mansion has 27 guest rooms and suites, all filled with period antiques and many with ocean views and the carriage house provides 24 cozy guest rooms decorated in country French decor. In 1927, when the property became an inn, it hosted Hollywood stars, including Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

More than one hundred years after its construction, the Lighthouse Inn Resort has managed to maintain the old-world elegance of yesteryear and combine the richness of its rich history with the necessities of modern travel and entertainment. The Grand Lawn is host to many functions including breath- taking weddings, festive parties, lobster bakes, and swing dances. The inn also offers guests a private beach, a pool, and a full service salon and day spa, as well as a grand lawn, picturesque gazebos, a sculptured fountain, grand staircase and much more.

The formal grounds were designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park.
