Built at the crest of the silver bonanza in 1891, the Oxford Hotel is one of the few remaining 19th century hotels in Denver. Its classic exterior belied an extravagant interior, including oak furnishings, sterling silver chandeliers and stained glass accents. The hotel survived the ensuing “Silver Panic,” and the Great Depression and was re-modeled in grand Art Deco style in the 1930s. When Denver experienced a rebirth in the 1970s and 80s, the hotel survived the downtown revitalization that razed many of the city’s landmarks and historic buildings. Today, the hotel is located in the heart of Denver’s historic “LoDo” district, an area that is brimming with galleries, restaurants, boutiques, clubs and entertainment venues. A meticulous, three-year restoration returned this century-old gem to her original splendor while simultaneously celebrating her Art Deco heritage.
