  • Simply amazing.

An instant new favorite destination. This historic charmer is perfect. We love the Christmas decorations. Sat by the fire this morning drinking coffee and read the local newspaper. The food was excellent. Clam Chowder was great, but the Mountain Man breakfast stole the show for me. Walked by the river this morning and sat next to a Redwood. Could actually taste the freshness of the air.

  • 30th Anniversary

    by Daniel D on 2017-12-11 02:16 pm

We are not strangers to the Benbow. We spent our first Anniversary there 30 years ago, and quite a few in between. There have been a few changes, some good and some not favorites. We were there during construction, and understood that. Having said that, the workers started hammering etc. Way before 9 AM. I am used to a certain level of quality when it comes to the "delux" rooms, and was a little disappointed to find a lamp with a short, a kureg coffee maker insted of the nice little coffee maker they always had (very mediocre coffee now). Even the complimentary sherry that has always been a signature item was obviously of lower quality than in the past. The service was still excellent and the staff frendly and willing too please. A great dissapointment though, was what was a comfortable intimate Lounge with a piano player and quiet elegance, has been traded for a common bar with 2 flat screen TVs. The new addition is coming along, and it will have an elevator, something us older guests will appreciate! I think they need to decide if they want old world elegance or just becoming an ordinary hotel. Trying to be both is not working very well.

  • Beautiful place to stay

    by Becky R on 2017-12-08 12:31 am

My husband and I recently stayed at the Benbow Inn for our anniversary and had such a wonderful time. The Inn was all decorated for the holidays. The Inn has been going through an extensive remodel, so it was nice to see some of the finished product. They relocated the bar so that it is now next to the restaurant. We enjoyed a few drinks before we went to dinner. Our dinner was outstanding. We had the special, which was the Filet Mignon with root vegetables. The filet was cooked exactly right for both myself and my husband and we wanted it cooked differently. We also had the New England Clam Chowder as our appetizer. That was also great. Besides the wonderful food, the service was perfect. Our server friendly, very professional and made us feel special. It's hard to find quality service like that any more.
The one drawback was our room didn't have a TV. The hotel has rooms with and without TVs, so if you want one in your room, make sure to ask when you are making your reservation. You need to remember that this is a historic hotel so the bedrooms and bathrooms, while comfortable, are not huge.

  • Lot of potential in this establishment

    by Laurie M on 2017-11-28 03:21 pm

We were visiting from the East Coast and wanted to see the redwoods.. I love older hotels and this place is pretty. The room could have used a bit of dusting but They were under construction when we visited. The restaurant was good- breakfast food and service truly top notch. The problem we had was a lack of security to oust a bunch of rowdies that were visiting a hotel guest. They were smoking on this non smoking venue, banging doors and keeping everyone up and there seemed to be no one to deal with this. It soured our visit which is a shame.

My family and I area from Ohio and stayed at the Benbow Inn last wk. We had 2 rooms and can't wait to go back again!! It's a very unique place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone!! The restaurant and bar onsite makes for a convenient / relaxing evening. 2 minutes down the road is Garberville and just a little further is the Avenue of the Giants.
