  • The Colony again..still a winner

    by 1Jp1 on 2017-10-17 08:37 am

I love the Colony! I just will not stay anywhere else in this area without at least spending a night at this fine, lovley establishment. All of the staff are just wonderful and the beach club is just perfect. If you like older, well maintained historic hotels, this is the place! I'll be back for spring training and I will be at the Colony!

  • Historic hotel in Delray Beach

    by James M on 2017-09-23 05:17 am

I like older hotels that have personality. Delray Beach is becoming increasingly popular and it is nice to have a place to visit that harkens back to when the pace was slower. If you want modern conveniences this is not the place for you. The lobby is not air conditioned, the rooms have window units and the beach club is a mile away. But you can walk to all the great restaurants on Atlantic Ave. And the hotel has a very good buffet breakfast. It is still my favorite place to stay in Delray Beach.

  • Grand hotel, a classic

    by Mark G on 2017-08-18 07:00 pm

The place is a landmark, a throwback to years gone by. It is stately and well situated. The rooms have been nicely modernized. The AC in the rooms work well whereas the lobby can be used as a sauna, it is so hot and muggy. The old ballroom is similarly nice but a total sweat box and is used now for hot yoga classes. The staff are nice but not attentive, often using their personal cell phones rather than helping guests. The beach (located 1.5 miles away) is gorgeous as is the pool (by the beach) but the staff let you get your own umbrellas and chairs and could use direction in terms of customer service. There seems to be a lack of leadership with the administrative staff; but all this can be improved with the right team in place. I would return again, but hope the owners have made the same changes to the staff as they have to the hotel

  • Great Historic Hotel - in a beach town

    by FamilyMan444 on 2017-08-17 04:28 pm

We stay at this hotel 1-2x per year. For the record, if you want the Ritz Carlton then this isn't for you. However this historic hotel offers great value and a wonderful experience for all.
I have been a guest at the colony for about 12 years now.
The hotel has a throwback vibe from the turn of the century. As soon as you walk into the lobby, you hear big band music from the 1940's.

This historic hotel offers some pretty reasonable prices also which I mention later.
Situated smack on the center of Atlantic Ave, simply walk out the door and the beach is less than a 10 minute walk if that.
If you fly in to west palm beach airport, cab ride is $60
    "You don't need a car"

You are surrounded by shops and cafes situated both on Atlantic Ave and all throughout the surrounding streets for blocks in each direction.
Like art? This town is known for their artsy shops and decor.

It's great for a winter getaway.
Parking is free and behind the hotel.

    Internet is for a fee.

    Rooms:
Look- the hotel was built around the turn of the century. It's also recognized as a historic landmark. The rooms are a bit smaller than average. I always get the king suite and let me tell you, it's not what u may think "However" it is extremely comfortable. I believe what they did at one time was open the wall between 2 rooms to create this suite.
Anyway, when retiring, you will love the "Super Comfy" beds with fluffy pillows.
The rooms really don't have a view that is worth requesting so no need to stress about a view

The hotel is just 3 floors including street level. What's cool is the original elevator. When you need an elevator ( the only elevator ) a desk clerk operates the single lever elevator control. He stops and starts the elevator each time. Also, the elevator has an iron gate that the operator opens and closes while in use- kids love to watch it.

    The lobby is "Great"
All original era decor. Go downstairs and grab a drink. They open the French doors to the front terrace and you can people watch any time of the day. Great place to hang and relax.

There is no restaurant onsite however they do have a included buffet that is very good. Both hot and cold items each morning.

    Cabana club
Another cool perk. This hotel has its own cabana club a few blocks away on the beach. It's all included in your room price. If u have a car, just drive there and park in their lot. If no car, it's a little to far to walk however the hotel has a shuttle back and forth. The cabana club has an eatery for lunch. Also an amazing salt water pool. Or, set up on the beach. They provide chairs to guests.

    Staff:
    Never an issue. Extremely friendly.

Pricing : when I tel you it's reasonable- I mean reasonable. The largest room is usually less than $300 per night.
Try staying in Delray for that price per night.
As far as eateries in the area, u name it and they have any type of food.

The Buddha Bar rooftop is great for sushi. Vic and Angelos side walk bar for cocktails.
City oyster is a must for seafood.
    Kilwins later for ice cream

I recommend going during the holidays. It's usually warm and he place is decorated very nice. Also they have a huge tree in he lobby. If you go on New Year's Eve, Atlantic Ave is shut down for 1st night and it's loaded with kids activities.

Oh yeah- You have 2 Starbucks less than 5 minutes away and Dunkin Donuts located on Federal Highway. It's brand new and a great morning walk.

    Enjoy this hidden historic treasure

  • Trying, but some built-in limitations

by mrsirin on 2017-08-07 07:33 am

This place is trying: they're renovating the bathrooms, and are doing their best to keep up an old property. However, as a June review noted, the reception, breakfast, and ballroom areas are not air-conditioned, and so average about 80+ degrees F when I was there. The rooms have window units A/C, which are very noisy and make sleep difficult, and the hallways have an "old" smell. The off-site pool and beach area are a nice feature, although the lunch offerings are average. The location is just blocks from many restaurants.
