  • Friendly Staff Good Location

    by _mjay4travel on 2018-07-16 04:03 pm

Trying to book a room from the airport on my phone, I made a mistake and ended up at another hotel with no reservation. The nice desk clerk called around until he found me and girlfriend a room at El Convento. I was glad to not have to camp on the beach. It was a holiday and not much was available.

I found the staff (almost everyone in San Juan) to be friendly and helpful. The location was good and I walked around most of Old San Juan, eating and drinking as I explored.

The room was comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. We had a couple of hours to wait between check out and getting on a cruise ship. The staff allowed us to stay and use the area with water and fruit to relax comfortably.

I did not eat at the hotel, so no input there.

Be aware that there is an added charge to the bill. When I asked about this I was told it is common for this type of hotel in this area, and it covers the fruit, snacks, drinks that are available in the common area twenty four hours a day.

Because of my situation, I was very glad to have had a room here, and I would stay here again.

We attended a wedding at the Hotel El Convento. It is a beautiful hotel in a restored convent. The hotel has a relaxing atmosphere, with rooms surrounding an open courtyard with a restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff! We would definitely go back, and very highly recommend it to others.

  • Beautiful central location!

We recently stayed at El Convento for two nights to just unwind from a eventful family reunion that took place on other parts of the island. We arrived early in the day to explore Old San Juan and the front desk employees were extremely nice and held out luggage until check in and provided a map for us to use. Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a nice view. The plunge pool and hot tub (open 24 hours) was perfect to just relax, there was a nice breeze on the roof top so you were never too hot. The wine and cheese reception was truly a great addition to the stay and made it worth paying a little more than other locations. We visited the bar for a few drinks and an appetizers and the bartenders were great and extremely helpful in giving us suggestions for local restaurants. Everything you need to see in Old San Juan is within walking distance. We also took advantage of the beach club agreement they have with other hotels and enjoyed the waves for a few hours (just ask the front desk for your free pass). We were able to Uber to and from the sister hotel for $7 each way, very convenient.

Overall it was a great stay and we definitely would like to visit this property again in the future.

  • Location and History Equals Charm

The Hotel El Convento, a former convent dating back more than 400 years is a charming and vibrant hotel in the heart of Old San Juan and just a short walk from the cruise port. The hotel is comfortable and still maintains a respect for the history of the property.

  • Absolutely wonderful stay!

What a magnificent place to stay! We spent two nights here and wish we'd stayed longer instead of moving to the beach. The converted convent is well maintained, gracious, and full of interesting details from the tile work, to the painted ceilings to the tapestries to the wood furniture. The thick walls mean the rooms stay cool and quiet. We slept like babies! The rooms are interesting and charming and not modern, except for the bathrooms--which are new and lovely! The interior courtyard is a wonderful place to relax after a day of sight seeing. And the rooftop plunge pool is a hidden gem! We had almost it to ourselves at night, under the stars and with a view of the city's lights. What's more, the staff was friendly and accommodating and graciously rebooked our room when our party shrank from four to three at the last minute. Truly, a magical place to stay if you appreciate history and character and good service. Even our teens loved staying here!
