  • Perfect trip - fantastic location, great service, beautiful hotel

    by tuffy0317 on 2018-03-15 05:24 pm

I travel a lot and it's rare that I don't have a single complaint about a hotel, but... I can't find anything negative to say about our recent stay at El Convento. It was darn near perfection! We stayed here over President's Day weekend on a long weekend getaway from the cold.

The location is amazing, walkable to everywhere in Old San Juan. Our room was very comfortable and had a cute juliet balcony overlooking the harbor. The pool deck was the perfect place to relax and read and, although the pool is just a wee-little plunge pool, it was never crowded. The wine and cheese reception, which is included complimentary with rooms, was impressive with Spanish wines and a great patio to sit and enjoy the view of Cathedral Square.

San Juan is open for business and the businesses there desperately need tourists to return. Go! You won't regret it.

  • Our 6th Trip Here -- Love it More Each Time

    by Kristie617 on 2018-03-13 05:53 am

We absolutely adore El Convento, and recently visited for the 6th time. The location is amazing, the service is professional and welcoming and we were delighted to see how well the operations have held up since the devastating hurricane.

We always feel as if we're coming to our "vacation home" when we visit El Convento and this time was no different.

  • Great Location

The rooms are a bit on the small side, but we had a beautiful view and the bed was very comfortable. It's great to have a glass of wine in the early evening and meet fellow travelers while watching the sun sink low. If you want to eat breakfast at the hotel you should make a reservation. Both mornings we were met with a crowd waiting to be seated for breakfast and ended up eating elsewhere.

  • Great Central Location in Old San Juan with Good Service

by berwind on 2018-03-12 01:24 pm

We stayed at El Convento for two nights before our cruise, as we wanted to spend more time in San Juan than the cruise scheduled. We loved the location of El Convento right in Old San Juan, just down the hill from El Morro Castilo. Old San Juan is very walkable, but it's hilly! El Convento is located on Calle del Cristo, right across the street from the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, so lots of foot traffic in the area. It is also just up the hill from a great little museum Fundation Felisa Rincon de Gautier, the home of the very colorful first female mayor of San Juan. We enjoyed a free personally guided tour. Back to El Convento-spacious room and bath and we enjoyed a balcony overlooking the pedestrian Escalinata de Las Monjas. There were great room-darkening shades and we never heard a thing from outside. An inner door also meant we could block out the music from the central patio when we wanted to sleep before the entertainment was over. Dinner the first night in the El Convento restaurant was fine, but not really memorable. No San Juan or PR craft beer on the menu, alas. We were disappointed that the tapas restaurant/bar in the hotel was not open the entire time we were there. But nice drinks in the tree-shaded patio. A very helpful front desk. And really nice wine and cheese reception every evening from 6 pm. We didn't swim in the pool on the upper deck-it was very small, but looked enjoyable. Finally, we loved the fact that such an historic building has been preserved and put to good use for people to enjoy.

  • Very special hotel

by MajorNYC on 2018-03-07 08:16 pm

Historic building, carefully modernized. Outstanding level of hospitality, with so many gracious touches: coffee, tea, and cold water always available; turn-down service with chocolates on the pillow; There remain a few post-Maria glitches with internet and other infrastructure (occasional power and water outages) but the hotel has coping strategies in place. Good food in the courtyard restaurant. The rooftop plunge pool is a welcome amenity that both adults and children can enjoy. Very warm and welcoming staff. Excellent value for price.
