  • Incredible stay with Friends

by Griffinators on 2017-12-05 08:25 am

We stayed here in late June- early July 2017 with friends celebrating a birthday. It was our friend's desire, after visiting here several years ago, to come for her 40th, so we stayed, sight unseen. What a great place! Its an old convent and very charming.

Very centrally located (we walked to lots of shopping, restaurants, and the governor's mansion) and across from a small park/green space with visitors and musicians. Our room was small but nicely furnished and fine for 2 people. We couldn't hear anything but the AC at night even though the park had lots of traffic and musicians each night.

There is an inner courtyard, and its old San Juan ambience open air concept, so the hotel is mostly un-air conditioned, but the hotel rooms are and ours was very comfortable. There is a nice bar/restaurant in the courtyard where we relaxed and had drinks and snacks. We didn't a meal there so I can't really speak to the food or service. The courtyard is humid and the mosquitos came out at night (but as I mentioned its Old San Juan open air ambience) but there was lots of comfortable seating and large umbrellas and shady trees. There is also a lovely wine and cheese reception each evening with fabulous wines and cheeses. We enjoyed it every night before heading out to dinner. We even worked out the in the workout room, but its very small (6 of us completely filled it up!) and very hot. It was fine for our purposes each morning though.

There was a tiny splash pool but we didn't make use of it- the hotel had an arrangement with the Marriot Courtyard to use their pool and beach access. We did that one day and it was very nice.

It was very charming spot and we'd return for sure when PR gets back on its feet after recent hurricane damage. I hope tourism returns bigger and better for Hotel El Convento and all of Puerto Rico.

  • Great location in Old San Juan; friendly and attentive staff and great on-site food!

by coastiehutton on 2017-11-25 10:35 am

The staff is just awesome! Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. Grounds and the hotel were kept well; rooms ranged from functional (smaller) to outstanding (very spacious). On-site restaurants ranged from a decent bar with lunch and dinner, to a very exquisite small restaurant.

Old San Juan is all around you...walk to wherever you want to go. Markets, unique shops, all types of restaurants, parks/squares, churches, and the Old San Juan forts are all within a five minute walk, plus all of the architecture along the way.

Bottom line: this was a GREAT place to stay!

  • Walk Everywhere from This Centrally Located Gem

by motile on 2017-11-23 01:10 pm

This is a picturesque hotel in Old San Juan with a rich history. It is on a cobblestone street directly opposite the cathedral. It suffered some damage during hurricane Maria and they still have occasional power outages, but the service was friendly and welcoming. The front desk can find available tours for you and you can enjoy the generous evening wine and cheese reception. We sure did! We had breakfast each morning at the restaurant on the ground floor. We loved the breezy cloisters outside our room and the Spanish-style furnishings. Be sure to read the brochure about the hotel's many transformations. It is an easy walk to historic sites, shops and restaurants from this centrally located gem.

  • Our wedding: magical location & exceptional service

    by Ricardo B on 2017-11-22 03:07 am

We recently got married in Hotel El Convento. We relocated due to Hurricane Maria, but it was the best thing that happened (It has a back-up generator). The hotel is magical from the get go. The pictures you see online do not do it justice. It is amazing and breathtaking as soon as you walk in. The entrance, the interior patio, the Salon Campeche, everything with unique details and decor. And also, a WONDERFUL staff. Fabiola Cruz was amazing from the beginning. Not only were we moving everything with a month notice, she was diligent, attentive and responsive everytime. And our magic day came, and it was perfect. We had a first look with pictures through the streets of Old San Juan, La Rogativa and the Fort San Cristobal. We were able to do this because of the close proximity El Convento has with all these locations. And then our ceremony. We got married in the patio with a beautiful ceremony under a stylish permanent canopy that holds over 80+ in attendance. Then, we had a cocktail and over to our reception in Salon Campeche. That room is AMAZING, and the decoration really stood out. The food was amazing (rissotto with yuca stuffed chicken), the waiters and bartenders very attentive, and the music sounded amazing in the room. Everyone was jumping from the moment the reception started. We are very happy that our wedding took place in such a magical and amazing place. It is truly a hotel above the rest, with elegance above the norm. Thanks again to Fabiola and her awesome team.

  • Could not have been better...

A wonderful, charming little jewel of a hotel located in Old San Juan. Our visit, following the hurricane we found most of OLJ still in darkness while El Convento was fully powered. While the beauty of the hotel was prominent, it was the people who stole the show. From our initial greeting to our final good-byes they were nothing but examplary. Let me give one example; my wife has some food allergies so she was not able to eat off the menu, so they arranged for us to meet with the chef who went out and sourced fresh ingredients (fish and vegetables) so we could dine there. Shout out to Talana, Marc and the entire team at this little jewel of a hotel

It was a pleasure to have you with us. Both Talana & Mark are extremely grateful for your comments. We are happy to say that most of Old San Juan is back on track and the hotel el Convento continues to offer 100% of its first class services. We certainly hope to have you back very soon.

    Warm regards.
