  • Beautiful location, impeccable service

    Went here for a conference with a family member and had a fantastic time. There is plenty to do even without leaving the property- the path along the pier provides a beautiful view of the water, and the grounds themselves provide plenty to look at. Lots of free activities available for all ages- s'mores on the beach, free fishing poles and nets, live music by the pool. Most importantly, the service is among the best I've experienced in my extensive travels. Every single employee was friendly and helpful- we ran into a gardener in the middle of her pruning, and she spent a good twenty minutes giving us an impromptu tour of the Chef's garden. The server at the pool greeted my mom's name the following day (impressive given the number of guests they had). The waitstaff at the restaurant was exceedingly professional and polite. The cleaning service provided us with free water and toiletries on demand. i could go on. My one (minor) complaint is that the building we were staying in (building 4) was showing its age a little, but my understanding is that other buildings had been more recently renovated, and it looks like the management is doing a very good job overall in trying to keep a very large property up to date. I would highly recommend and plan to come back again in the future.

    You can search the world over and never find a better vacation spot. The world class golf to excellent fishing to the relaxation of a hammock underneath a live oak tree. The beautiful pools to canoeing and bike riding along the bay. My family has been visiting our favorite spot since our now college aged children were mere toddlers. The service is friend, warm and welcoming from time of check in to the hotel cleaning to the pool service. We highly recommend this treasure.

    I love The Grand, the service, the place, the food, the fun bar at nights. It is such a lovely place on the Alabama Gulf Coast with so much history. Families have vacationed at the Grand for decades. The restaurants are top notch. Beautiful beach and pool. You can rent kayaks, paddle boards, etc. Rooms are very comfortable.

    This venerable hotel has been here since 1847. Recent remodeling have improved the rooms. The breakfast buffet is old school with new twist, such as goat cheese, conecuh sausage bread pudding. Don't knock it until you try it!. The Valet/bellman staff are top drawer. The down side was the check in process involved a person who just did not understand what we were saying to him. We finally did it his way, but this was not to our satisfaction. The other problem was the room service for the evening. We were told it could take up to an hour. Then we were told at one hour it would take 15 minutes more.
    Bottom like, if you don't need room service or anything out of the ordinary on check is this is a classic old school hotel...I really recommend it, with these caveats

  • Our happy place, but disappointing customer service

    We are loyal customers to the Grand Hotel. It's our family's favorite for a short trip. However, this week the resort was obviously overwhelmed or letting their customer service slip along the more formal beach attire that the Grand has been historically know for. Our three day trip began with overcharging our debit card by $500 and then a waiter desertion during dinner. He was MIA... seriously?... never happened at the Grand! When complaining about the overcharge, we got a shrug from the manager and "so sorry." We paid $65 for a the most spartan room service breakfast ever - stupid move- and then had one day when the room was not cleaned until 6 pm - and we had to ask for that service! Otherwise, we love this place, especially for the gorgeous pool, shady oaks, calm bay swimming, amazing breakfast buffet, fire pits at the bar, lawn games, scenic bike rides, and awesome family atmosphere. Pool waiters were friendly and we will ve back. Just sad to see the VIP treatment suffer.
