  • Great time, again.

    We enjoy our time at the Grand Hotel and all it's perks. Starting with beautiful rooms, the BEST food, and the BEST waiters and waitresses. Can't wait to get there every year and see our friends, the Jamaican's. They are like the frosting on the cake. We can't say enough about The Grand Hotel. You just have to experience it.

  • Well named, it was a Grand Stay @ the Grand Hotel

    A wonderful couple days in fall, the weather was spectacular for most of the visit. There is NO Tipping at the Grand Hotel, the service is excellent. The menus are diverse and extremely interesting. Based on our state would love to spend enough time there to try all the items - the prime rib was the best I have ever had. The berkshire pork loin was superb. Breakfast was wonderful. Dinner is a five course meal.

  • Bucket List Stay

    We had the opportunity to stay at the Grand Hotel for a one night stay at a great discount thanks from a friend.The grounds were awesome. The hotel is 130 years old, though it has done its best to create an awesome experience. The weather the day we visited was cool and windy which was not conducive to riding a bike or horse. Therefore, we stayed within the grand upon our arrival. The evening meal was a full 5 course meal and was delicious. The breakfast was also as suburb.
    As we marked this visit off our bucket list there were a couple items we felt the visit was not satisfactory. One was the cost of staying at the 130 year old place and two was the cost of an alcoholic beverage. Both of these seemed to be over priced.

  • Uniquely Wonderful

    If you really love staying in hotels where every room looks the same, lacks character and color, do not come here.
    If you want excellent service in a fabulous fable tale setting, this is the place.
    In the middle of one of the most beautiful places on earth sits a 130 year old masterpiece hotel lovingly maintained by the same family for generations and decorated by one of the most influential minds of the last 60 years. Relax like nowhere else.
    Expect to dress to show respect for this special place and have a great time. Baseball caps down at the pool but never in the parlor; dress up for a dinner you will enjoy and remember.
    On second thought stay at the chain hotels so those of us who love it can keep it special for future generations.

  • A Grand time

    My husband and I have both been to the hotel before but never together and have never stayed the night so this was a bucket list item for us both. We took the Sheplers ferry to Mackinac Island, luckily I had researched ahead of time and found out that it was $8.50 per person each way if they took it for you to the hotel. So we saved $34 dollars by loading our bags onto the ferry (and not letting the ferry sniper take them for us) and when we docked we just walked to the grand hotel with our stuff and put it in the holding place for free while our room was being put together. We arrived at 10:30am, our room was not ready but we didn't expect it to be. We left our bags and headed back into town. We came back around 2:30 and our room was ready. The rooms are old and mostly clean, there were a few things like a hair on the shower curtain, and no trash bag in the trash can and it needed to be cleaned out, it was empty but kinda gross. The baseboards are white with many many black marks on them from the vacuum being jammed up against it. We were excited to have wine glasses in the room along with regular glasses. We love the signature geranium scents, and the grand hotel logo towels in the bathroom. We walked literally every place we could in the hotel. Looked in the cupola bar, didn't go in but very pretty in there and it's at the very top of the hotel! They have an arcade for kids that we visited and found a squished penny machine (my favorite!) I am always enamored with the Somewhere In Time aspect of this place. And they even have a plaque on a rock for the "is it you" moment in the movie! It's just a tree and a rock but if you are a fan, it's pretty cool. We passed afternoon tea, looked good. $40 for tea sandwiches, tea and biscuits. Looked like a good spread. We visited the gardens also very pretty.
    We played around on the grand porch too. It's so inviting. Dinner is such a treat at the grand , we got dressed (required) and went to dinner at 6:30. Hardly a wait to get in although if you come late be prepared to wait. We left at 7:30 and there was a long line to get in from a group of conference goers. I read that we were to have menu 3, but once we got there it was a different menu, which was still good. After dinner we had demitasse in the lobby which is about the cutest thing ever and they had a lovely harpist playing. We visited the Audubon wine bar, drinks were good, then walked up to the live band and dancing which was beautiful. The next morning we had the breakfast buffet. All in all I give it a 5 out of 5. And shout out to Thea (the most bubbly dining room attendant by far) in the dining room by helping us out after we were confused on how to leave dinner, she told us that yes there was dessert (as our waitress had not mentioned it at all and ending up handing our table over to a different waiter at the end of our meal) and she brought us our dessert menus and our new waiter helped us order and wished us well.

Just for future reference, the $8.50 per person charge for luggage handling is a one time fee that covers your luggage transfers to and from the hotel.
