  • The Hotel Is AMAZING , But The Conceirge Is The Greatest Asset!!!

    We got to the hotel at 1pm and they told us that we could not check in til 4pm, but that was not an issue because the hotel is within walking distance from the downtown area. After we checked in they gave us the wrong room but they apologized and offered us a suite. We politely declined and said that a room would be just fine. The room was very nice and even had a balcony facing the pool. Later that day we went down to the Conceirge, Darlene, and she provided us with great information about the island and even made us a reservation to go horseback riding on the spot. (which I looked online and could not find an availability anywhere) Throughout our entire stay Darlene was the most polite, helpful, resourceful, and talented person on the entire hotel staff and I would highly recommend her to anybody.
    Overall I would have to say that the Harborview Hotel is a great place to stay with it's location, staff, and rooms.

    We really enjoyed our stay. Hotel has lovely charm and is spotlessly clean. Staff around hotel was very friendly and service oriented. Special thanks to Darlene, a most terrific concierge. Darlene clearly goes above and beyond. She made our stay outstanding and made us feel special and well taken care of. She is warm, upbeat and so thorough and knowledgable...she made sure all of our plans were taken care of without a hitch! Our stay would not have been the same without her.

    Restaurant staff was also very nice and most accommodating. Views from hotel are just lovely. And proximity to town is great.

    Hopefully, the upcoming renovations will keep the same feeling at hotel and just be the needed cosmetic updates and adjustments that will make this hotel even better.

    (One improvement could be the Check in and front desk staff. They could benefit from improved knowledge and greeting/ingratiating "skills". More smiles, more energy and more interest in your stay and in providing information about some particulars and the property especially at check in. That was our experience).

    Bottomline, though, we would absolutely stay there again!

    Wonderful staff outweighs the few rocky parts of our stay... an elegant old fashioned lovely hotel
    Look forward to seeing what they do with the planned renovations and hope they can retain the historical feel and charm
    Staff is well trained and special thanks to the skills and calm humor of the concierge, the bellmen, Abby in the restaurant, and the kind and efficient pool staff

  • Spectacular!

    Arrived with a large group and no reservation. The staff was absolutely amazing! They brought 17 rocking chairs out on to the porch facing the lighthouse. We enjoying an amazing lunch with spectacular views! I cannot say enough about the staff. They bent over backwards to make sure our group had a wonderful experience! We will definitely be back!

  • Hotel with a serious attitude problem. Price paid not commensurate with service or value.

    Perhaps I set my expectations too high for this $500+/night per room hotel in which I booked multiple rooms for a family celebration. What I received in return lied somewhere between a Quality Inn and a Holiday Inn.

    Unpublished tip for guests: if you do not book via the hotel's site, you will be relegated to the smallest, most rundown rooms in the far inferior Mahew section. I've posted pictures of the peeling wallpaper, stained carpet, tiny bathroom with chipped bathtub, broken elevator and dirt. I was unable to photograph the luke warm shower, leaky air conditioner, broken lock and sliding glass door that only opened 4 inches.

    The front desk staff/management were rude, condescending, uncompassionate and hinted that this was retribution for booking via a third-party website. Only after demanding to speak to a manager did the hotel agree to move one of our three rooms to a clean room on the third floor of the main inn. Great, except the occupants were seniors and the elevator was broken for our entire stay. The front desk reception even attempted to fleece us for $75/night to make this switch. This was quickly waived when I demanded once again to speak to the Manager who was cowering out of site, but in earshot several feet away.

    Big kudos to the rest of the staff at this hotel who were all just wonderful and made up for their lousy bosses. This includes great bellmen, bartenders, waitstaff and house keepers. The harbor views really are spectacular.

    And honestly, value for price paid excluded, I am satisfied with the action management finally took to at least move one of our three rooms, but arriving at this resolution should not have been so difficult.

    Where the Harbor View failed was rather than welcoming back return guests (who booked multiple rooms at a cost of over $1,500 a night) we were immediately penalized and treated like thieves for booking via a search engine. Perhaps this was noted in our folio, as our checkout was cold and business like. No offer to help with our bags, no, "please come again". Don't worry. We got the message and we won't.
