  • Old world charm with a bit of a modern edge

    by Deana D on 2018-06-18 02:12 pm

My daughter and I are staying here only for a couple of days. It is close to everything Reasonably priced, elegant, comfortable, clean, top notch! I would definitely recommend booking your stay here if you're going to visit the Salem area.

  • Elegant and centrally located!

Really nice cozy pub restaurant as well as an elegant restaurant and breakfast room.. Like stepping back in time. Friendly and clean. The special deals which include admission to local museums and a free dinner in the pub room are generous and save a bit of money. Centrally located and perfect location to tour Salem's city attractions.

  • Wonderful Place!

The staff was great; very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was delicious and our server Kathy M was such a cheerful person. The night manager Jeff Swartz gives tours of the hotel's history in the afternoon. Though the bathroom was small is was very clean. Overall we had a great stay and I'd go there again if I return to Salem.

  • Good service but terrible bed

    by Barbara W on 2018-06-09 01:28 pm

The Hawthorne Hotel is an historic hotel in Salem, MA. I like historic hotels and know the rooms are smaller, don't have large bathrooms and refrigerators. We stayed 2 nights in room 502, which is a lovely corner room with 2 windows. One has a view of the harbor. The other the back parking lot. The parking lot is a plus because parking in Salem is limited due to small one way streets. The location is great. Near to the Essex St pedestrian mall and the seafood restaurants at the harbor. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. We brought a package deal that included breakfasts and 2 museum entry fees. Very convenient. So why only a 3 rating. It was the mattress of the queen sized bed. There was a lump down the middle and side facing the closet was worn down from people sitting on the edge to the point that I kept rolling to the edge of the bed because it was so much lower. I had 2 lousy nights sleep. I told the front desk. Hope they buy a new mattress.

  • Nice Hotel

    by TonyJT40 on 2018-06-07 04:11 pm

We had a queen size bed room. The room was small but there was enough room to move around. It was neat, clean and comfortable. There was no continental breakfast available but have coffee, tea and water in the lobby. The bathroom was comfortable but the reason for only a four rating was the bath/shower. Standing on the tub floor was like standing on a balance board. You had to hold the grab bar at all times. We reported it to the front desk and they made a note to advise maintenance. The front desk personal were friendly and helpful in answering questions about the area. I will return.
