  • Appalling - incredibly disppoibted

    by Joanna Q on 2018-01-16 08:39 pm

All 9 in our big family group checked in today and cannot express how horrible the experience was! Long lines at reception, general line quicker than the Hilton honours line and just disorganisation. No assistance with bags or navigation to our room. Really appalling!

We are Hilton honours members. Have stayed around the world in several properties in Asia, Europe and the US. Hilton until today was our favourite hotel chain....not any more!

I sent an email to the Hilton Hawaii over a month before arrival to express what a special occasion this was for my family of 9 and yet no response at all. All of us celebrating first time in Hawaii, my mum's 70th birthday and retirement from work after 40 + years. We thought a little acknowledgment would have been granted...not here!

On check in, there was no mention of this and there was no welcome back or the usual reception we receive as honours members. There was a suggestion from Annie the receptionist that we should upgrade to the rainbow tower from the tapa tower as there were 2 suites available. She did her best selling this to us as a perk and once we were considering we were told it would incur an additional $130 per night per room. As we were staying in 2 rooms and for 7 nights this would be a lot more than budgeted for. And we were rather surprised as we have received beautiful upgrades from other Hilton properties when ever they can and also free wifi and free late checkouts etc.

Then we were told that there was a $35 per night surcharge for use of wifi and facilities in the hotel???? Wow!! How offensive. Surely this needs to be looked at??

What about Hilton honours rewards I asked?? No, said Annie. You didn't book directly through us therefore you have no benefits!!!! Hilton Fiji, Bali, London airport within the last 24 months didn't have a problem with it??? We only book through agents and have never had a problem with anyone else, why Hilton Hawaii?

Anyway, We are completely dissatisfied and our view of the apparent city view which is a car park is a reminder tonight of this horrible first impression of this hotel. Not happy at all.

  • Loved it! It's got everything!

Great views, we were in Tapa tower with a partial ocean view excellent view of the lagoon.
Rooms clean and the village itself had every amenities you would need. Many shops and resturants close by and you aren't in the crowded part of Waikiki. Our family absolutely loved it.

  • Best holiday

    by Mel H on 2018-01-15 08:26 pm

Once you get to know your way around this huge resort and after you've endured the long and busy check in lines, this is a wonderful place to have a holiday! There's several pool areas with bar service that comes to you in your sunbeams with a variety of cocktails on offer while you relax and the kids swim with all their new friends.
There's a variety of eating areas - food on offer in general wasn't that amazingly delicious or cost friendly but theres a couple of stores (which are always packed) where you can buy food to store in the room's small fridge.
The room itself was average, I personally found the beds not comfortable - too soft and my queen sized bed at home is bigger than their beds! But we didn't come to spend all our time in the room.
Location wise - great! Right next to the beach and a short walk away from shops and eating areas.
There are so many activities at the resort for the kids and adults and I would definitely stay there again.
The Luau was fantastic and the food they served was delicious!!

  • New Years Eve at HHV with our Kids!

by dsokolik on 2018-01-15 02:10 pm

We chose the HHV for our New Year's trip to Hawaii mainly because i'm a Diamond member with Hilton and we used points for the stay. We arrived late in the evening and were able to avoid the long check-in lines that we saw later during our stay. No upgrades available for Diamonds as they were completely full for New Year's Eve.

Our room in the Tapa tower had a decent view for not being oceanfront. The view really worked to our advantage for the NYE fireworks the resort did over the lagoon, we could see them perfectly from our balcony.

The room itself was just average, nothing really wrong with it but nothing outstanding either. We did notice some wear and tear in the hallways.

We needed a car to explore but i wasn't about to pay the outrageous parking fees, so we did consecutive one day rentals from National's on-site desk. The manager there was very helpful and allowed us to keep the same car and did our paperwork in advance so all we had to do each morning was get a pass to exit the garage. He also shared a tip that there is limited free 3 hour parking on the other side of the lagoon so we were able to park and clean up before heading back out for dinner.

The kids had fun in the pools, although the water was cold this time of year. They also loved being able to easily walk right to the beach. Even as big as this place is, the walk to the beach isn't bad. Can't beat the location.

Diamonds don't get free breakfast at this property, instead they give 2 $10 food vouchers per day. So $100 credit for our 5 day stay. That didn't even cover the cost of one average breakfast at the Tropics restaurant for our family of four. We ate most of the rest of our meals off-site.

Overall, i'm glad we stayed here once to experience it, but i'm not sure i'd want to stay here again.

  • Beautiful Place

    by Lindas S on 2018-01-15 06:22 am

It's a great place with wonderful rooms, comfortable beds and great staff. It is close to the beach, very close and has a lot of stores and activities right on the property. We were so excited about getting an ocean front room except the hotel is actually not facing the beach. Our room faced another hotel with a partial ocean view and the other window faced just hotels. I couldn't sleep the first night because I heard sirens all night, but decided to stay in the room and the rest of the stay was good except... There is a big time change. The fireworks show is on Friday which we couldn't see since our room did not face the oceanside where the lagoon was. We fell asleep early Sunday and thought the place was being bombed. People were running our on there balconies not knowing what was happening and since we couldn't see the ocean, we didn't know what was going on We saw flashing red lights and heard what sounded like bombs. I guess it was a firework show for a special event. I end up with heart palpitations, a warning would have been nice! Also, don't think because you paid for oceanfront, it actually is like the picture. The jacuzzis were so crowded over the limit and with under the age limit with children, we didn't get to go in sometimes. They have a lot of pools, but they serve more people than the pools can accommodate.

    Owner Response
    Aloha Lindas S,

Please allow us to extend our sincere gratitude for not only your feedback but your compliments. The team here works very hard every day to provide memorable experiences for our guests, so we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We do apologize for the unexpected fireworks show that was for a private function. We will pass along your feedback to our upper management for the possibility of extending notifications for our guests. Also, we work hand in hand with Waikiki Beach Activities who manage several of our pools and your information is valuable. We will make sure to review with them. Thank you for taking the time to let the online travel community know about your awesome stay here at Hilton Hawaiian Village!

    A hui ho,
