    We stayed 3 nights and it was ok. The room was clean and the people at the front desk were nice. It sounded like a bathroom fan was running (although it wasn't) all the time so it was louder than we liked. I can only assume it was the air conditioning. We had the air conditioning set at 68 but I'm sure it was more like 72. Like I said it was ok. Good location. They charged my credit card for our stay and we had already paid through a third party so I had to call and got it straightened out. They did credit the charges and they were polite but not at all apologetic.

    Great time! Suite was spacious and clean. Omg, the shower was amazing! I did enjoy the European style continental breakfast. Hubby was not as pleased due to thinking European style=Belgian waffles. ;D

    With all the previous reviews and the promises made on the hotel's website, I was really looking forward to this stay. I had decided to splurge for a special stay with my daughter at the start of our vacation. The hotel website uses the words luxury, upscale, and lavish but the hotel was anything but.

    The hotel did have a few good points. Location was great. Within walking distance to many shops and restaurants, and it is right across the street from the Orpheum theater. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating. The hotel itself is very quaint and the architecture is beautiful.

    Now for the negatives. Our first room was apparently having problems with the air conditioning so we had a portable air conditioning unit that was taped through the window and was very loud. The floor in this room was filthy. It also had a very small TV which other people had mentioned. When I complained to the staff, they were very helpful and moved us to another room. The second room was cleaner and the AC worked well. The kitchen vanity had a big chunk out of it. The beds and pillows were comfortable, but the rooms are not quiet at all. We were on the 6th floor and we could hear people outside like they were standing outside our room. Others have mentioned the fire trucks going by and that was a bit of an issue as well. It looked like they were working to do maintenance throughout the hotel, but the work seemed shoddy. There was paint on the floor tiles in the bathrooms and all the door jams.
    We used the valet parking ($20) because our flight left at 3am and we didnt want to walk around alone during the night, which worked very nicely, but there is also a parking lot at the end of the block that provides overnight parking.

    Overall, the experience was very disappointing, especially given the inflated cost (College World Series weekend). Won't be staying here again....

  • Needs Maintenance but could be very nice!

    We had double queen suite which was very large. There were two comfortable queen beds with various pillows. The sitting area was very large but the furniture was not "sensible" for just relaxing etc. There were these extremely large side chairs that even the tallest person couldn't put their feet on the floor if their back was in the chair and the couch was way t0o deep to also just sit up in. There was a desk and rolling office chair as well. The vanity area with bar sink and frig was nice extra space but the frig was packed with expensive items and no room to actually use it for the baby formula etc that we needed it for. The overall look of everything was very nice but especially the bathroom had issues. The water poured out of the shower stall because no sloping on the tiles or rubber barrier the glass door. We had to sop up several towels full of water during and after each shower. You could see the damage that this has caused all over including damage to the wall and flooring. There were some dirty/moldy looking ceiling tiles as well. There advertised a "grab and go" breakfast but didn't realize there was no coffee in rooms. The coffee in lobby was awful. They did have some food out but we only ate a couple muffins and grabbed some fruit so not sure if other offerings were good. It felt a little stuffy in there with most guests in suits etc for business I assume. We booked a package deal of pay 2 nights and get one free and we ending up leaving after the second night to find a place on our way home that had a pool and a more casual breakfast etc. Overall, it was a pretty lobby. We did not eat in restaurant. Employees were friendly enough but I wouldn't say great customer service. Seems short handed when we checked in with only one bell boy/valet trying to help the people that arrived in front of us and also trying to see to us as well. They were quick with the car at other times when we needed it. If the maintenance issues were fixed, it would be a very nice art deco style hotel. It was close enough to food and coffee ships and just a block or so from the Old Market area.

  • Nice place, not worth the money

    This was a very nicely decorated hotel. The housekeeping was terrible, however. We had three rooms and they all had food and debris on the floors. There were black fingerprints in the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. Front desk and breakfast staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This place is very unique and has a great vibe. The cleanliness factor causes it to be not worth the cost, however.
