  • Beautiful hotel downtown, built in 1907

    by Joe A on 2017-11-09 01:01 pm

Wonderful hotel, extremely comfortable California King bed, many excellent restaurants in walking distance. Staff is very attentive and courteous. This is where I will always stay when in the surrounding areas.

  • Historic Hotel With a Huge Heart

    by spearfish39 on 2017-10-21 02:38 pm

The Hotel La Rosa is an historic hotel in Railroad Square. It has served the community for over 100 years and is decorate in period furnishings. While it only serves a continental breakfast, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance. Sitting in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country, you can explore over 500 wineries in the area, enjoy a trip to the rocky coast, visit the Redwoods or simply enjoy a leisurely stay in a charming facility.

We live in Santa Rosa. During the recent major fire in our area, we evacuated to the hotel and remained there for 11 days. Most of the guests were also evacuees. This is a locally owned facility and the owners were also evacuated due to the fires. While the owners could have charged above their regular rates because of the shortage of rooms, they gave evacuees a very favorable discounted rate. When the owner learned that there were no businesses open in the area, she prepared a simple hot supper for all of the guests for the next ten days.

You will enjoy this charming, cozy hotel, the wonderful welcoming staff and owners who treat guests as though they were family. The Hotel La Rose is a winner.

    Dear Spearfish39.

Thank you for staying with us while you were displaced during the recent wildfires in Sonoma County. We were pleased to host you and your fellow neighbors during this tragic event. Though a very trying time for everyone, it was rewarding to see how the residents of Santa Rosa pulled together. Though we knew that this is a very special community, this event only solidified that fact. Thanks again for the opportunity to host you.

  • Contemporary stay steeped in history and economy

    by Eric T on 2017-10-07 03:23 pm

It was a real joy staying at Hotel La Rose on a recent trip to Santa Rosa, California, U.S. I'd highly recommend it.

My second floor room overlooked was comfortable and quiet, despite being the longest walk down the historic carpeted hallway. The advantage is seeing all the historic pictures and the names given some of the rooms.

The bathroom is thoroughly modern and well-appointed. Its best feature is the period chain-pull toilet with its water tank high in the air.

Hotel La Rose was built as "the" luxury hotel in Santa Rosa's Historic Railroad Square in 1912. It served as a gathering place for many years. The solid stone hotel survived the 1969 earthquake that devastated much of downtown Santa Rosa. When I lived in the city in the mid-70s, Hotel La Rose was a poor quality place to stay.

Its new owners remodeled the hotel to modern standards and upgraded to a boutique hotel now on the the register of the Historic Hotels of America.

The breakfast was mundane, and if I had more time, I would have gone to the breakfast restaurant around the corner. It's the only downside to an affordable and comfortable stay.

Well-appointed rooms had a comfortable bed, far too many pillows, and a welcome sofa. There is no closet per se, but a Victoria wardrobe for storing clothing. Rooms were spotless, the table/work area had adequate outlets for charging phone, camera, and running computer. WiFi was seamless and good speed and quality. For business purposes, the table was a little small.

Personnel were very competent and friendly--5 stars to them.

I'd pick this again over any other hotel in with rates in the low $100s. In fact, if a chain is charging in the $80-$90 range; upgrade to Hotel La Rose. It's worth the price difference for ambiance, character and downtown location.

    Owner Response
    Dear Eric T.,

Thank you for your stay with us and also for your detailed review. I am pleased that you enjoyed the historic nature of our hotel and were comfortable in your guest room. I am sorry that the complimentary continental breakfast did not meet your expectations. I hope to have the opportunity to host you again on your next trip to Santa Rosa.

    Best regards.
