  • Historical and beautifully renovate!

    Some people don't like historical renovations, but I do, especially if they are tastefully done and offer ambiance with modern conveniences. This hotel achieves that end.
    I will revisit the hotel when I return to KC.

  • Wonderful Stay, Charming and Elegant Hotel

    We were here three nights for a volleyball tournament at the nearby convention center. Can't say enough about how comfortable our room was. It was spacious and spotless, with super comfortable beds, luxurious towels and toiletries and a Keurig coffee maker. It felt like home. The location was also super convenient for us and it was so easy using valet parking ($25 per night). Within minutes, they'd have our car for us when we needed it. The hotel also has a cool speakeasy-style lounge in the basement that you access from a "hidden" door. I enjoyed a delicious drink called a French Martini. Hilton knows how to provide excellent customer service and a consistently comfortable hotel experience, and this stay did not disappoint. We will be back!

    Really enjoyed the service and overall experience. The staff are amazing and the location was perfect for the business meetings we had downtown.

    One of the better steaks I've had was in their restaurant. Little did we know that our quick overnight business trip would actually be quite so enjoyable.

  • Wonderful Hotel, but a surprising problem

    On balance, this is a great hotel. Great location, historical building. Comfortable bed and room. Reasonable price, although it is getting more difficult to justify paying for hotels with the advent of airbnb.

    One feature that we loved was the shuttle provided by the hotel. Within a three-mile radius, they take you to any destination. And not only was that service excellent, but the main shuttle driver, Scott Jackson, was especially engaging and friendly. He is such an enthusiastic ambassador of Kansas City and of Hotel Phillips.

    The other employees at the hotel were fine, but none of them with the enthusiasm of Scott. There was not really a dedicated concierge desk there, which was surprising. The staff at the front desk did not really seem very trained or experienced in concierge-type duties. All seemed young and not very polished. Perhaps that is the nature of the hotel business in 2018.

    The big surprise during our stay is that our room was not serviced or cleaned or made up during our first day there. It was totally incongruent with the standard of service promised by Hotel Phillips. We had been away all day, visiting the World War I museum, and arrived back at our room late in the afternoon to find that it had not been serviced. We called the front desk, and initially, they did not seem to be very interested in this issue. The first person told me that she would talk to her supervisor, and to hold the phone, but then she hung up. It took over an hour for the supervisor to call me back, and then he initially seemed to accuse us of leaving our Do Not Disturb placard on the door, and then asked me: "Well, what do you want me to do?" That caught me off guard. This was an unprecedented experience in a top-quality hotel, and I thought maybe they would have had processes in place to deal with this situation. I wasn't sure what to say, so just told him that he might want to consider comp-ing the first day of our stay, or maybe upgrading our room. I didn't know what exactly to say, but thought that something should probably be done. I also asked that the room be made up after my wife and I left for our restaurant that night. He seemed unsure, but eventually said that he would give me some bonus points on the Hilton Honors program. He seemed to be bothered that I had called about the service problem, and made me feel awkward. I just wanted to move on from the situation, so I said that was fine. But it was perhaps a bit inadequate.

    After that, though, the hotel stay was very nice. The corner room on the 15th floor afforded nice views of Kansas City. As previously stated, the shuttle service is a big bonus. I think they could have handled the service situation better, but other than that, this was a fine hotel. Must lower the grade to only three stars, though.

  • Great location / hotel

    Stayed here for a conference. Hotel was very clean, well maintained, and the location is great... close to just about everything.

    Room was larger than average and very clean.

    Coffee shop is currently closed, but the in-house restaurants are great.

    I would definitely recommend this hotel!
