  • Affordable Elegance, Impeccable Service - We'll be back

by Mary Ann L on 2018-07-20 07:25 pm

We chose this hotel for its location, central to activities we had planned. I looked at other properties on either side of the price range, including an economy business travel chain that we use often. The base rate was virtually identical, though Hotel Phillips does charge for parking, and there's no free breakfast with the basic rate. Based on the historic beauty and architecture, the Speakeasy bar, and the tastefully decorated rooms, we figured paying for the few extras was worth it as it would elevate the overall experience on this leisure trip with our friends. We were delighted with our choice.
What really makes this property shine is the impeccable, friendly service. From the valets to the housekeeping staff, our every request was promptly taken care of. Thanks to their suggestions, we spent a great evening at a small jazz club we would not have found on our own, and had a fabulous KC bbq meal. The blues concert we had come to town for ran late, but our hotel shuttle driver, Scott, offered to extend his shift and pick us up anyway, waiting outside for us to catch one last song.
We enjoyed capping off each night at the Speakeasy, and the craft cocktails were exceptional. Also, very comfortable beds and bedding.

  • Superb stay in Kansas City

We are in the area for a family wedding and couldn't be more pleased with our hotel choice at the Hotel Phillips. From check in with the charming and super-helpful Kelli to the complimentary room upgrade, our visit was off to an outstanding start. Our winning streak has continued with the hotel's 1920's speakeasy style decor including our visit to the basement speakeasy P.S. which requires a secret password to enter. This has been a terrific visit and if fortune brings us back to KC we know where we will stay.

  • Too much for so little

    by U7388JIamberw on 2018-07-20 12:01 am

Bed: Hard as a rock, but probably harder.
    Continental breakfast: None.
    Pool: None.
View: Literally, a brick wall (rm 1007). We actually paid extra at check in for a high room.
    Parking: $25/day.
    Microwave/Fridge: None and none.
There was actually a puddle of standing water in the room, not sure where it came from, but it was there for our two over nights.

  • Weekend in Kansas City , MO

Great location close to the Power and Light District. A unique looking hotel with a "speakeasy" bar in basement but also a restaurant with a bar at ground level. Rooms are on the smaller side due to being a old renovated hotel, but the room was tastefully decorated. Valet was very good even in the busy time. Staff was cordial as well.

Hotel has a lot of character and fun Art Deco details but room was very small, the bathroom was literally a foot from the side of the bed, and the room was pretty dirty. The bar in the basement had great drinks.
