  • High Tea not as advertised

    by gail c on 2017-12-14 02:29 pm

The property and the hotel was certainly extravagantly beautiful but the Tea was not as expected. The soup was delicious but the Scones were fat sugar cookies, tea sandwiches were small canap?s on stale bread. Tea was bagged only, without many choices, mostly Earl Gray and when we asked for more choices, we were told there was no more. The last course was more cookies but nothing so great Service was nice but not at the level of an experienced server. It was enjoyable but certainly not like a serious High Tea that I have attended other places. We won't take this long drive from Jacksonville again for this event even though the holiday spirit was there in the decor in abundance.

Thank you for joining us for our annual holiday tea. It sounds like we fell short in some areas of our presentation. I have passed your comments on to our Executive Chef for his review.

  • Christmas Package and Grand Dining Room

    by Daniel A on 2017-12-12 03:13 pm

We come to Jekyll Island resort in December for the "Christmas package" and absolutely love this place. The lights and decorations are absolutely stunning. The staff remembers our names and we love everyone who works there. Our room was in San Souci built in 1896 for it was so beautiful. We had a fantastic brunch at the grand dining room on Sunday morning with our favorite server "Ponnie. I started with prime rib, bacon, salmon, and ate three more plates after that. The piano was playing wonderful music every time we went up to the buffet for more food. It's worth every cent of the $39 for this breakfast brunch buffet. The resort has gone through many upgrades since last year and we will love the new store for Jykell Island merchandise. We bring our bikes and they have a new bike building with new bikes to rent along with bike tires just in case you have a flat. I love getting the Christmas stocking with an apple, orange, chocolates, a fresh gingerbread man, and beautiful Christmas ornament of Jekyll Island resort. Can't say enough great things about this resort for its historical and magical. The restaurant "The Wharf " on the dock is also excellent with the beautiful view on the water. If you love history you must come to Jekyll Island resort because of the lush history of all the beautiful cottages around this resort. This resort was originally a hunting resort for many prominent families like the Vanderbilts, Morgan's, Cranes, Rockefellers, Fields and many other families. They give tours of the homes of all of these families with great historical stories. This is also an excellent place for a meeting or wedding. They have a saltwater pool and Jacuzzi heated to 80?. They also have about five or six little specialty merchandise gift stores on the property also in walking distance. They also have a horse and carriage for 45 minutes historic tours about $40 for two people and $15 for each additional person. The carriage hold up to four people. Erica at the front desk remembers us with a smile every time come along with a great server Robin... you must make Jekyll Island club resort a part of your annual vacations for it will make great memories with your family and friends.

We love your reveiew! It touches on all aspects of a wonderful stay at the resort, from the excellent dining at our many restaurants, the new Shoppe and bike barn (Jekyll Wheels) as well as the magical holiday lights and many activities the historic district and entire island has to offer. Thanks for the nice comments re: Erica and Robin. Both great assests to the resort team. I will pass your nice words on to them.

  • Great quaint Hotel

    by Jarena928 on 2017-12-11 03:29 am

What a great little hotel in the heart of Jekyll Island historic district. The service was five star from the front desk to waiters in the grand ballroom. We Had dinner in the Grandball room Saturday night, it was excellent. It was also very exciting to think we were eating in the same beautiful room and people like the Pulitzers, Rockefellers, and JP Morgan 100 years earlier. The weather wasn't really cooperating with us so we didn't get to do a lot of the things outdoors that are available here. But personally I think is the best place to stay on Jekyll Island. I love staying in hotels that are historic, and this Hotel/Clubs history is second to none! The room were period decorated and quite large for an old hotel/club.

What a great review! The resort is definitely unique because of its' architecture and history as you noted. We are glad your stay was superior and you had a nice dining experience as well. Please join us again in the future.

  • Holiday Tea

    by sbrown2u on 2017-12-06 04:41 am

The rating above was definitely for the property and not the Holiday Tea. The property and decorations are beautiful, wonderful, magical etc. I could not wait to kick off my holiday season with this "special" tea. The tea was not special. The food was not served on typical tiered trays but was brought out like a regular meal order in different courses. The 1st course was soup and it was served lukewarm. 2nd course was suppose to be the tea sandwiches They were flat, sparse and mostly unidentifiable The plate looked more like cocktail horderves and actually leftover horderves than tea sandwiches. 3rd plate out was my favorite part of a tea "scones" These were the biggest disappointment of all as they were flat, crispy and chewy If it sounds like I am describing a cookie that is basically what they were like They definitely were not scones. I honestly do not know how they even served these without embarrassment anyway enough said about the food. I did not enjoy the tea and I was hoping to make it a Christmas tradition. I would not recommend this Tea to anyone!
I have had other food at this resort and it was over and above in presentation, quality, and taste so I am not sure who prepared the food for this event

We certainly are glad you enjoyed the resort property but of course are disappointed that your experience at our Holiday Tea was not up to our regular excellent standards.
I have passed all of your comments on to both the Executive Chef as well as the Director of Restaurants. We do hope you will give us another try.

  • Our 15th Annual Visit for Our Anniversary

    by Paul V on 2017-12-05 06:43 pm

Another great trip! The food in the Grand Dining room is a little overpriced. But they have added this great new bartender in the lounge: Stephanie. In addition to being attractive, she has a great personality. So much fun!!

    Owner Response
Wow, 15 years. We so appreciate your continued patronage of the Jekyll Island Club. See you again next year!
