  • Great place to stay in Santa Fe!

    by 289DJS on 2018-05-22 07:11 pm

Old Santa Fe style d?cor. Lovely. We stayed in their king size deluxe rooms and were fortunate to have rooms on the first floor, just a few doors down from the major hall and a few doors away from the spa, exercise room, and pool area. Rooms 108 and 110. The rooms looked out to the street and the sidewalk shopping area across the street. Fun to look out and see their wares daily. The hotel personnel were very nice and very helpful; the food in the main restaurant and bar area was very tasty. The French caf? not so much. The hotel is perfectly located downtown Santa Fe, and I highly recommend staying here. A couple words about their turn down service. We felt it was done late. After 8:30 - 9:00 p.m. daily. Then we decided we didn't need turn down service anyway. :)

  • + + & - -

    by JPBary001 on 2018-05-20 02:37 am

+ + Art & History - For the history and the art, this deserves 5 stars. But I had to warn that everything isn't perfect. There are compromises that you have to accept to accept preserve the art and the history and there are some that you shouldn't have to accept (for the price). What makes this exceptional, priceless really, is the art, which is infused into every detail from carpets to ceiling fixtures. I recommend the daily tours offered by management. It really enhances the appreciation of the art and the history. With that understanding, staying at La Fonda is truly like living in a wonderful museum.

+ The Location. As the name implies, you are at the center of Town, across the street from the Native Arts Museum and the Cathedral, close to Sorrento Chapel, the State Capital and Canyon Road.

+ Judicious Updating. The awareness that they are curating artistic treasures has led to an understanding that things shouldn't be replaced just because they are old. But they keep surprisingly up to date. There are USB ports by bed, discreet night lights in the bathrooms and an up to date keyless entry system that provides.entry to the spa and pool area as well as the room.

+ The courtyard pool feels private, but is carefully situated to get sun most of the day despite the high walls around it.

+ The Lobby Area. With multiple entrances, the main desk, concierge, bar and spacious seating areas situated around the main restaurant with its high, sky lighted ceilings, this has a great flow and is a great place to hang out with friends or just sit and enjoy the art.

+ Rooftop bar has spectacular views, especially at sunset (although drinks and food are unremarkable).

+ Free bottled water is readily available in the rooms and public areas (but caps are devilishly hard to remove without getting yourself wet for some reason).

    - The bad news- HOUSEKEEPING:

*We had to ask for slippers, which took a day (and one more request) to arrive.
*There were four small containers of milk in the fridge when we arrived. No more was supplied until the 4th day (when I asked).
*Sheets were not changed after 4 days. (1 or two days I can understand because water is scarce in the region, but no fresh sheets after 4 days?)
*I accidentally dropped my key in the small exercise room and it fell under a treadmill. When I reached under to get it, the card and my hand came back covered with dust.

    - "Sorry, No." In general, the staff is very pleasant and accommodating, especially at breakfast. But they are expert at saying "Sorry" with a smile. An example is turn down service, which is almost a charade. They tap on your door between 6 and 6:30, when you are likely to be dressing for dinner. If you ask them to come back in 1/2 hr, they say: "Sorry!".

    - Exercise equipment is limited and getting more so. I understand they are replacing some of the treadmills with massage tables. Is that where we are headed? I suppose so.

    Owner Response
    Dear JPBary001,
Thank you for your very thorough review, both the good comments, and the things we need to improve upon. Valid constructive criticism is always welcome. I was very pleased to read that you have such great appreciation for our original artwork, sensitive modernization efforts, our historic lobby and the amazing views from the Bell Tower!
I'd be the first to admit we are not perfect, and I will share your observations with my Housekeeping manager. I assure you when I conduct room inspections, I never fail to peer under the bed to make sure we are getting all the dust bunnies. In all honesty, I've never looked under the 350 lb treadmill with its 2 inch clearance from the floor, but I will add that to my list... While on the topic of the fitness center, I'm happy to set the record straight regarding "limited exercise equipment." As of this week, we will be relocating the fitness center to a larger space, with brand new (and additional) pieces of equipment. The current fitness center will be converted to additional therapy rooms for our spa.
Also, your observation about turn down service is a bit confusing to me. Every one of our 180 rooms is offered turn down between the hours of 6 PM and 9:30 PM. If the turn down ladies came to your room between 6 and 6:30 more than once, it was just a coincidence, not a charade. While some guests decline the service, full turn down is typically provided to more than 80% of our occupied rooms each night.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, they were enlightening and helpful.
    All my best,

  • Beautiful Hotel

    by Janice M on 2018-05-19 06:38 am

We recently stayed at La Fonda Hotel for 6 nights with a group of friends. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. We could not have asked for better service. The rooms were well appointed and very clean. We ate in their restaurant La Plazuela and the food was delicious and large portions. Of course the margaritas were awesome. We watched the sunset from their rooftop bar The Bell Tower. It was a sight to see. The hotel is located on the plaza and convenient to all of downtown Santa Fe. We highly recommend this gorgeous hotel to anyone visiting Santa Fe.

    Dear Janice M,
What a lovely review! While it is always nice to read about a guest's appreciation of our location, food quality and great margarita's, your remark about excellent service is most appreciated! Our friendly and dedicated staff are really what makes this hotel memorable in so many ways and I love it when they are recognized.
Thank you again and I hope you all return in the near future!
    Best Regards,

  • Outstanding service in a convenient location

    by bfb2018 on 2018-05-18 08:40 pm

We attended a reunion of college friends for 4 days in Santa Fe staying at La Fonda. It had been many years since we visited Santa Fe. Everything about our stay was perfect. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was unfailingly courteous and helpful. The food in the hotel restaurant far exceeded our expectations; the quality was a match for many of the other restaurants we visited in the area.
The hotel is an historic building filled with beautiful art and artifacts.

  • Amazing Ambiance

    by Randi W on 2018-05-18 07:23 pm

Someone else said it first so I am am copycat but why create a better title when there is already perfection? A don't miss...downstairs or upstairs - which closes five minites after sunset and I missed it tonight but opens tomorrow at 3 pm. I will be there and Omar the manager promised to check on me to make sure everything is perfect. Yes - customer sevice 10 +++++. A must do in Santa Fe - but when you say that evetybody thinks - touristy, yea right. But in this case - just do it!
