  • A Special Experience

    by Taos_NewMexicoBeth on 2018-02-21 12:26 am

Walking into the La Fonda from the parking area felt like going back in time to Old Santa Fe. The low wood-beamed ceilings, the beautiful tile work, and the Native art and pottery on display in the gorgeous lobby create a charming historic atmosphere that continues throughout the hotel and up to the guest rooms. We requested a standard room on the top floor and were delighted by the original artwork lining the corridor as we walked to our room. Once inside the room, we were charmed by the lovely painted headboard, the pretty patterned carpet, a cupboard with punched-tin panels, and a 1920s framed print from the La Fonda's collection. The room was smallish, but there was plenty of storage space for our clothes and luggage. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and there was a beautiful view of the rooftops of Santa Fe and the surrounding mountains. The bathroom was also on the small side, but again there was plenty of space to store our toiletries in the recessed area by the sink. We loved the bathrobes, the grapefruit-scented bath products, and all the little details that added up to a unique experience. I should also mention that we had a delicious dinner at the enchanting La Plazuela (the hotel's restaurant) and would highly recommend eating there at least once during a visit to Santa Fe. We've stayed at other upscale hotels in the city, but this was our favorite by far. We especially liked that the parking has in-and-out privileges without a valet, and you're allowed to park all day even after you check out. Also, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our one regret is that the rooftop bar was closed for the season--we'd love to return in warmer weather to drink margaritas up there!

  • Staff lives up to "service"!

by osuginger on 2018-02-19 07:10 pm

Had some difficulty with on-line booking on the official website. Phoned the hotel, after 9pm central time. Reservation desk was closed, but I needed assistance now. Rang the front desk and Michael Pearson answered and was MORE than helpful. He took care of the situation. We are eagerly anticipating our stay. If the staff is quality (Michael Pearson), the facility and stay will win as well. Thank you, Michael!

  • An Artful Surprise Around Every Corner

    by Kendra K on 2018-02-19 07:28 am

I spent 7 nights at La Fonda and enjoyed every single minute of my stay. The staff are professional and responsive, have excellent manners and professionalism, and are warm, helpful, and friendly. I loved the main restaurant, La Plazuela, for the variety of New Mexican cuisine it offered -- the presentation and taste was excellent -- and the Ernesto Martinez painted windows are gorgeous creating a charming & unique visual. The hotel is full of BEAUTIFUL art both historic and contemporary -- it is EVERYWHERE --- so take some time to roam the halls to check it all out. The hotel's collection of Navajo blankets alone is stunning. There are also paintings, ceramics, sculpture, and an AMAZING array of tin lanterns throughout the hotel plus two massive kiva style fireplaces and lots of places to sit and relax, have a drink, and soak it all in. Or, better yet, take a free 90-minute tour with one of the hotel docents. There are exquisite Old World furnishings coupled with modern touches that create a casual elegance to the whole ambience. Every guest room has original art, beautiful bedding, and a well-appointed bathroom. Housekeeping services was very helpful. There are several lovely shops, a pool, intimate spa, and workout facility, banquet halls, meeting rooms, and outstanding concierge services. Everything was top notch -- steps away from all the Santa Fe main sites. It is an amazing hotel with a great Americana history. Loved my visit and will be back! An unforgettable iconic destination.

    Owner Response
    Dear Kendra K,
Thank you so much for the lovely review and for spending such a long time with us! I can tell from your description that you were on the go from early morning until late in the day exploring La Fonda and Santa Fe. I appreciate that you mentioned our wonderful and dedicated staff, as well as our local cuisine in La Plazuela.
You'll have to return during the summer months when there are even more things to do in Santa Fe! I look forward to welcoming you, (and your friend?) back again soon!
    All my best,

  • A wonderful winter stay at the beautiful La Fonda

    by Elizabeth J on 2018-02-18 08:38 am

Three -day stay with my daughter was so enjoyable at this historic hotel with old-world gracious service, tended fireplaces and inviting chairs, great people watching, chocolates at turn-down, wonderful comfy beds, pretty sunroom for dining, and superb location off the Plaza. If you go in busier summertime, plan for sunset cocktails on rooftop bar. La Fonda is a classy colorful place.

A lovely historic hotel with tastefully renovated rooms (some with balconies), a perfect location for exploring Santa Fe, helpful professional staff, and two dining options all combine to provide an outstanding experience. Highly, highly recommended.
