  • Beautiful hotel!

    We loved LaV. Truly wish we had been able to stay for more that just 3 nights. We had the smallest room they offer, but it was on the 9th floor and had a great ocean view. The room was old, but we felt it was clean was decorated nicely. Housekeeping did a great job.
    We ate breakfast on the outdoor terrace and inside dining room. The service and food was great on both mornings. No complaints! We did have a bit of an issue with our rate plan and there was some confusion at checkout, but they make it right.

    I would rate the location and staff as excellent, however the hotel itself for the price is over rated. The rooms are very small and dated , the ocean view was one corner if you twisted your neck, there is no lobby and only one VERY slow elevator. It's a quaint hotel but for the price it should more updated. Great staff and service though.

  • Pricey but worth it for a romm with a view

    Situated in the heart of La Jolla Village this classic hotel is well situated. Staff is exceptionally well trained. Being 100 years old there is only one elevator it is small and slow. If you can score a room with an ocean view you will be quite happy. The views and sounds of the surf will enhance your stay. Else I'd suggest staying elsewhere as without a view it is a well run classic hotel. Rooms are adequate in size and well appointed. Table and side chair, in room safes, K-Cup coffee maker, desk (in my opinion a redundant item in today's world if there is also a table in the room), removing it would provide more. Light and outlets only on one side the bed. Valet parking is efficient and courteous. They will block traffic for you to back out of the space as the hotel is on the main road through La Jolla Village. No ice machines. Ice will be delivered to your room upon request. The mini fridge is useless for storing items. It is a mini bar with the usual stock and hotel pricing.

  • Tiny bathroom

    La Valencia is in a beautiful spot with great service but our room was a bit dated. On their website, they describe their bathrooms as "oversized". We are given a Vintage King room and our bathroom was so tiny that my husband and I could not be in it together. The shower had a half glass panel so the floor soaked. The vanity did not open for storage and the mirror had no storage. The only storage was a small glass shelf running above the length of the single sink. Even had one-ply toilet paper which is not what one would expect in a "luxury hotel". Very disappointed in the size of the room and bath but the hotel was sold out so we stayed. Everything else was wonderful. This is just a warning that you may not want to book a "Vintage King" room.

  • Overhyped

    Stayed one night in this hotel And I was mildly impressed but not completely. The decor in our room was rather dated the whole hotel I believe is being upgraded/reconstructed and not too soon in my opinion. We drank in the bar prior to going out and the service was good . I am not saying we had a bad visit it Just didn't live up to the hype that my friend gave it as he had stayed a number of times previously. The view from our bedroom was good overlooking the pool and we also have a sight of the sea. Value for money? I've got to say no. Would I stay again, only after the refurbishment.
