  • Beautiful and historic

The Yellowstone Hotel is iconic, historic and well preserved. Rooms in the hotel are nice but can be a bit pricey. The cabins sit along side of the hotel and offer a more economical option, but are dated and basic. The location, 50 steps from Yellowstone Lake is perfect. Staffed well, by mostly seasonal employees who seem to enjoy being there. Get reservations early as possible for any accommodations within the park.

  • Excessive prices

I recommend you stay at hotels available just out the western exit of the park - much cheaper. The rooms in Yellowstone are overpriced, no TV, no elevator. We were 3 seniors and one individual had knee problems so was somewhat difficult to lug up our luggage.

  • A grand hotel....rustic cabins.

We stayed here just for a couple of nights in June 2017. We stayed in a frontier cabin.
It was early June and there was still snow here and there...but the cabins were warm and functional..except maybe the bathroom which was particularly chilly in the mornings. There were two double beds, tea and coffee making facilities. No Wi-Fi. No Tv. You really are off the grid ..but there's Wi-Fi at the hotel if you need to check emails etc. The cabins have a couple of steps up into them so disabled access isn't the easiest..I'm sure there are disabled facilities but I didn't see them at the cabins. There are pathways to and from the hotel so wheelchairs can be used.
The hotel is huge...beautiful but busy. The main lobby is always bustling and the restaurant was fully booked when we went. Maybe book in advance if you want to guarantee a place. The bistro/cafe at the hotel had hot food and sandwiches but not a cast range. They also did picnic type lunches to take hiking if you ordered them.
Apart from the hotel the lake view cafe on site is about a 5 minute drive....or a short walk...
We went there wasn't great. The food was cold or non existent. The lines were long and the service slow...
If you want food at the lake yellowstone ...well the choice is limited.
We ended up driving a couple of miles down the road to the canyon village general store and going to the diner which was excellent.
If you want a comfortable but basic accommodation the cabins are just that...perfect as a base for exploring and cosy in the evenings.

  • Rustic cabin experience

Selected the Lake Yellowstone Pioneer Cabin for our 4 night stay in early September, we booked it about 10 months in advance.

Arrived around 9pm and the check in area in the Lake Yellowstone Hotel was busy as several guests were occupying most of the check in desk, however once it was our turn, the process was quick. Requested a standalone unit and it was granted.

Drove out to the cabin, despite given a map, it was bit difficult to find as it was not very well lit (it was in the middle of the wilderness after all) and we were able to find a parking spot not far from our cabin.

The cabin is just as expected based on the reviews, rustic, charming, free from 21st distractions. It was spacious and furnished with 2 double beds, a reading table, chairs, table fan and assortment of tea and coffee with coffeemaker.

During our 4 nights stay, our cabin was kept spotless by the housekeeping staff and we didnt encounter any problem. We came with the expectations that there isnt any TV, radio, internet or cell service, so we brought good books and boardgames to pass the time while we're in the cabins.

The location of the cabins are just steps away from the lake shore and the convenience store and bison ventured literally feet away from the cabin, it was a trully one of a kind experience of wildlife and the beauty of nature, a good break from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

  • Classic Hotel and Lodge and Great Cabins

The cabins at Lake Yellowstone are very nice. I was surprised by some of the low reviews. I think that may be because there are a variety of quality at Lake Yellowstone from very small cabins with minimal amenities to some larger and nicely equipped cabins. The Lake Yellowstone Hotel is more upscale for a national park hotel. The Lake Yellowstone Lodge is the nicest place in all of Yellowstone. You can relax on a rocking chair on the porch and take in the lake views. The dining room serves a variety of delicious home cooked meals. The lake views from the dining room are beautiful. The lodge has stunning architecture.
