  • Sumptuous Victorian Style

by Mariahcat on 2017-12-09 09:19 am

Driving through Tonopah on the way to Reno we saw this hotel and decided to stop over on our journey. Really nice inside, reminiscent of the Victorian era. The receptionist at the front desk was helpful and I also got my AAA discount. Everything is clean, the bar area has groupings of velvet settees with tables in the center of them and a couple of slot machines. There's also a large walk in bank vault in the bar area, you can't go in but you can look in at a display they have set up in there. This began as a hotel in 1907. Our room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. Complimentary coffee setup in the central area on each floor in the morning. Great stay.

  • Historic Hotel

This was a great place to stay - wish we'd had more time to enjoy it. We had a long drive before and after, and arrived late. I love the detail in older hotels like this one plus it used to be a bank and still has the safe door, and the original 110 year old elevator!

Our room (economy queen) was on the smaller side, but very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful - even presented us with with a pet treat for our dog.

We'll be returning through Tonopah and will definitely stay here again if the timing works.

  • Great little hotel...

Spent a very restful weekend here. This part of the country is less settled than some might be accustomed to, but if you never stay anywhere but the Mizpah, you won't know it. Wonderfully restored with modern accommodations, my room was very comfortable, the food was good, the coffee was first rate, the whiskey selection was all I could ask for. The staff is great; relaxed and professional. The entertainment in the bar was excellent the night I was there; the "Peavine Pickers" rocked a full house. I needed a place to rest, and this place was a rare Oasis. Thank you, Mizpah!

Thank you for your kind review of the Mizpah. I'm so glad that you enjoyed a relaxing evening with us. The Peavine Pickers are great and a local favorite. They will be back with us on December 9th for our "Cowboy Christmas". So if you're headed this way, come join us again!

  • Love this place!

We have traveled from Las Vegas to Reno and back every Christmas for 10 years. We used to stop in Tonopah for gas only on the 8-hour trek. Then we had children. We had to find a mid-place to stop for the night. The first year we stayed at a 'standard' national chain. It was horrible. My wife noted the Mizpah on the way out of town that year. We cancelled our room and booked one at the Mizpah (the 'Wagon Room' was the only available room - a rarity).

Ever since that journey back 5 years ago we look almost as much to staying at the Mizpah as we do to our vacation in Reno. It is such a great, unique, quaint place to stay. And if the walls could talk! Ok, so some people think they do... (We've never been lucky enough). In any case, we stay in the spacious 2 queen room with our two children and absolutely love it. The 'theme' rooms are really spectacular, though.

The dining at the hotel is just fine, and the couches outside the bar are like heaven. Get a bottle of the Pino Grigio and just unwind with the cold wind and snow blowing outside. The proprietor of the hotel's Jacuzzi (wine) is awesome. We just booked our rooms and my kids are so excited to stay.

Give it a shot and relax somewhere between Reno and Las Vegas.

Great hotel for those who enjoy history. Built in 1907 and renovated to a T. Not a lot of choices in Tonopah, but we enjoyed our visit there. The room, 506, was small, but clean and adequate. The staff was ok, the wireless did not work, but we were ok. Restaurant on premises, but just OK.
