  • Lovely Hotel

    by gingerfields2004 on 2017-10-06 010:08 pm

Really well done oasis in an otherwise dreary town. Our room was lovely, antique iron bed, claw foot tub, red velvet drapes, very comfortable. Too bad it didnt have a restaurant the equaled the fine hotel accommodations. The restaurant was fine, just didn't rise to the quality of the room. I would have rated the hotel a 5 if it had better dining. The bartender did not know how to make a top shelf Margarita, and didn't know to include a straw in the drink... when I asked a passing MOD for a straw her response was "OH crap", and she never broughtg one to the table. We did get one from Our server, it wasn't a bar straw but a straw no less.

  • Historic Hotel

We stayed in the Mizpah hotel while in Tonopah. Nice bar and cafe in the hotel. The double doors to enter are a little difficult if you have limited mobility, but stop at the front desk and ask for a porter to help with the luggage.

We stayed in the "Lady in Red" suite. She was murdered near her room and the room is dedicated to her. They say her presence is still around, but we did not meet her during our stay.

Wifi was free, but you did need to sign in for each usage. otherwise it worked fine.

Bathroom was vintage with a claw foot tub. About 6 slot machines in the lobby.

Down the hall near the Elevator are signed displays of Hollywood stars who had visited the hotel.

  • Historic Hotel Good But Not Great

by mitchrusso on 2017-10-02 11:06 am

I really enjoyed the vintage nature of the hotel. The first problem started when we entered the building. There are 2 sets of steps that lead to doors that swing out making it difficult to drag luggage up into the hotel lobby, where there's yet another set of steps into the main area. There is no assistance, and this may not be a big deal for many people unless you are carrying large suitcases.

The lobby area is sunny and pleasant, the bar is accommodating and the bartender friendly. The restaurant is good, we had several meals there and while the menu is limited, what we ordered was fine, not spectacular.

Note: If you think you will have internet service working all the time, don't count on it. They use Frontier as their provider and it totally sucks. Don't think you are going to update your iphone apps or download anything. It makes you sign in if you go idle for more than a few minutes.

The room I was in, 305, was small. the bed frame left about 16 inches at the foot of the bed to pass through to the closet, it was a tight fit. The bed was comfortable, the A/C strong and there were outlets near the nightstand.

I realize we are in the middle of Tonopah, NV and there's not much else there, so it's best of what is available and that's certainly good enough given the room prices were reasonable.

I would stay here again if I had to be in the area or I would prefer to be somewhere else with easier access and better internet.

  • Not All There

by Napamel on 2017-09-27 04:16 pm

When I first walked in I could tell that they spent a lot of time and money to refurbish this classic hotel. But, with no decent restaurant in or near the hotel, it falls short. It makes no sense to me to have a hotel like this without a decent restaurant. We did have breakfast which was nothing special. As an example, the fruit plate was sliced apples wedges and oranges with seeds and that was it. It gave me the impression that nobody cares about doing it right.

  • Nice historic hotel

Never been a fan of hotels (I hate elevators) but we needed to break up our trip to Utah and opted to stay at the Mizpah due to its history and because they allow pets. The front desk staff was pleasant and gave guidelines - the desk is manned 24 hours should you need anything. The rooms are nicely decorated but small and a bit cramped for two adults and an 85 pound dog. Our room was quiet and we did not hear neighbors above or beside us. The lobby and lounge area are open and spacious - the restoration of the facility is lovely; great windows. Staying on a Friday night, the lounge was busy. Coffee is available on each floor by 6 am (I was up and moving about just after 5 am and coffee was available on my floor).

I did not give the property a 5 star for one reason - I went down to the Pittman Cafe for breakfast on Saturday morning. There were two food servers and several tables of diners - not what I would consider busy. I sat at the counter for more than ten minutes before I was given a menu and asked if I wanted coffee. Thankfully, I knew what I wanted and simply ordered - while breakfast arrived promptly, I was not asked if I wanted a refill on my cup of coffee and was provided with no jam/jelly for my toast - the food server disappeared, not to be seen again until she brought the bill, so could not request jam/jelly. Had the cafe been full, I could have excused the dismal service.
