  • Saved our trip.

We stayed at the Moana Surfrider after leaving a different hotel that was not what it advertised and was ruining our trip. So we were pleased when we drove up to the Moana and walked into the beautiful entry way and finally felt some of the romance that we had been hoping for on our honeymoon. The hotel itself is beautiful, so much character! We had nothing but great experiences with the staff, and were very impressed with the room. The hotel was very clean and decorated so nicely for Christmas! Our favourite part was actually the location. So central to all the shopping, restaurants, and of course the beach so you can walk to anything you might need or want.

The only tips I give future guests is always call for your car at least 20 mins before you need it from valet. They pick it up from another location so it takes a few mins but I recommend just waiting for it while you sit in the rocking chairs out front. Always a good spot to sit and people watch. Also as beautiful as this hotel is it is very busy and the very small pool is always full of kids and pool chairs are all full of towels people have left to save seats that apparently didn't seem to be a problem with the hotel as it didn't look like they made an effort to keep people from doing it. But Waikiki is such a busy place itself I guess we should have assumed it would be as busy as it was.

After our trip we realized Hawaii is not a place we wish to return to. We enjoyed our time but it just wasn't for us. We might try another island one day but for anyone visiting Waikiki be prepared it kinda feels a lot like the Vegas strip but instead of casinos it's high end shopping everywhere you look. Be sure to rent a car so you can go explore other parts of the island some really good little places to eat towards the North Shore. With all that said if I ever end up in Waikiki again I would happily stay at the Moana.

  • Very disappointing experience - would not go back

    by Jacqueline T on 2017-12-14 02:54 pm

I've been home a week now after my trip to Waikiki with my friend for a girls getaway break and some shopping. We normally stay at the Modern however decided on the Moana Surfrider for a change. What a huge disappointment this hotel stay was. The location and a pretty tree is the only thing going for this hotel. The rudeness of the staff and the complete lack of service as disgusting. There is no consistency in the service - that's when you actually get it - and generally the staff are just rude. They are just hanging around and are complacent. Around the pool, which was full of screaming kids so I highly don't recommend you stay at this hotel if you want to relax. In addition there is absolutely no service around the pool whatsoever. Guests generally go down to the pool at 6am and leave their towels on a chair all day to reserve it - most of the time not being on the chair themselves. It's really badly managed - actually it's not managed at all. If we needed staff to assist with a spilt drink from someone elses doing we had to go looking for one. The staff manning the beach hut just stood around all day chatting to themselves. They could be way more useful. I feel they have been there way to long and it's time for a change of guard. The menus are ordinary, and too heavy for outdoor dining in the sun. Time to modernise and lighten things up. The arrogance of the concierge is mind blowing. The fact the staff are wearing badges to stop the outsourcing is hilarious. I'd get rid of them all straight away. We provided a $10 tip for bringing our bags down and watch the porter roll his eyes at the other porter as if to say this is all I got. Seriously, this hotel is order taking on location and taking everyone for a ride. Really think twice before you spend your money. I would not go back there again.

  • Mini vacation

    by Julie S on 2017-12-13 05:30 pm

This hotel was amazing! My son and I stayed here right after he returned from military deployment. It was very comfortable, convenient, friendly, and worth every dollar.
I used the spa services while I was there and they did a great job getting me in with little notice and the service was outstanding! I will definitely stay here again.

  • Birthday surprise

by Fiellissa on 2017-12-13 02:56 pm

This was an amazing hotel, right on the beach beautiful views and very clean , excellent staff very friendly, food was great but we spent most of our time near the beach bar and in pool. The Banyan restaurant was great for breakfast buffet but we also ate our trying other restaurants , Yard house was good steak. We will definitely go back.

  • Beach Staff is top notch!

by goingtodar on 2017-12-12 06:03 pm

My review is not so much on the hotel but the beach staff themselves. I cannot describe how wonderful they are. this was my second stay at the hotel in 13 months, and i would return, just because of them . if you are like me, you spend most of your time by the pool or beach, so these are the people you interact with most!
They went above and beyond their scope of work to make me feel comfortable, as they knew i was alone for the first half of my trip. They gave me a wonderful surprise on my birthday, which brought me to tears - i would not in a million years have expected hotel staff to surprise me with gifts!! conversation was great, every day - not only with me, but with all the guests that took a few minutes to engage in conversation with them. they all had a great sense of humour and had restaurant and donut ( yes, donut ) recommendations on a daily basis! They really did make my vacation memorable, in the most positive way!

I cannot wait to retire - my new post retirement dream job is to work at the Towel station at Moana with them! Amazing staff

Michael, one of the hotel managers was also very helpful and a pleasure to deal with, as were the Bell staff and my house keeping room attendant Penny! she had a very pleasant personality and was always smiling!

they have some great employees there
