  • Overnight for ND womenâs hoops

by irisharpe on 2018-01-08 07:09 am

Our family, including 10 and 13 year old daughters stayed in a suite with sofa bed one night this past week. Exceptional bell, valet and front desk staff. All very friendly and eager to help. Room was clean and everything in proper working order. New, large TVs in both rooms. King size bed was quite comfortable. Bathroom was large and clean as well. We ate dinner pre-game at Rohr's. Quite a good selection for adults and kiddos. Food was really good. Waitstaff was good (though they forgot our app-not a huge deal). Adults had drinks later and service was a bit spotty but there was a pre-wedding gathering that was good size monopolizing much of the waitstaff's time, which was understandable. Checkout was a breeze. Can't beat the combination of friendly staff, comfortable room and proximity to the greatest university in the world!

  • Anniversary stay

    by Monica C on 2017-12-16 08:44 pm

My husband and I are locals to the area, but big Notre Dame fans. We chose to stay at The Morris for our anniversary and couldn't have been more happy. We were treated to a beautiful fruit & cheese tray and complimentary bottle of pinot noir. The amenities here are top notch in the standard rooms; I can't imagine what the higher tier rooms look like. The shower looks like something you'd see on HGTV and there are shoe shine mitts in the drawers! STAY. You won't be disappointed.

Oh! One thing to mention: Valet parking is $20 in the lot next to the hotel for the length of your stay or you'll have to park in the Hammes bookstore lot (<5 min. walk away). We chose to park in the lot. There are Lime Bikes all over campus that you can rent for $1/ride with the app and ride everywhere and leave anywhere.

Dear Monica C, Happy Anniversary! We are so glad you enjoyed your time at the Morris Inn and we look forward to welcoming you back soon to enjoy all of our fantastic amenities in the center of campus.

  • Notre Dame Wedding Weekend

    by dino758 on 2017-12-10 01:24 pm

Stayed at the Morris Inn to attend a wedding at Notre Dame. Overall is was a very good experience. It's a very nice hotel, well maintained and the staff is very friendly and courteous. Rooms as good sized and well equipped with all of the essentials. The only drawback was the restaurants. The service was a bit on the rude side and the food was ok.

    Owner Response
Dear dino758, thank you for your review of the Morris Inn. We appreciate your kind words and will share your feedback regarding the restaurants with our Food and Beverage managers.

  • The place to stay when visiting Notre Dame

    by LAT681 on 2017-12-10 10:51 am

This is a lovely hotel right on campus. The only negatives are that it's impossible to get a room on busy weekends, like move in or game days. And it's more expensive than most of the cheaper chain hotels in the area. But if you are lucky enough to get a room on an off-weekend, there is no better place to stay to see the campus and be comfortable for the weekend.

    Owner Response
Dear LAT681, thank you so much for your review of the Morris Inn. We appreciate your feedback. Since the Morris Inn is owned by the University, the hotel is used for University guests on home game and special event weekends. However. we'd be more than happy to see you any other time of the year! We look forward to welcoming you back to the 'living room of the University' very soon.

  • A Good Spot that Keeps Getting Better

    by Ken J on 2017-12-06 11:21 am

We now have about four years' worth of experience staying at the Morris Inn (about 2x/year). I'm pleased to report that it's become a go-to spot for cross-country drives.

The "Inn" (it's really not that; it's a hotel, smack-dab in the center of campus, with two good restaurants, an expansive and helpful staff) went through a serious transformation four years ago. No need to re-hash that here. Maybe it had a few stumbles out of the starting blocks post-transformation. We found the staff back then a tad quirky, the food a bit of the "roll of the dice" variety, a "computer problem" with check-in/check-out was dismayingly common, and overall service veered from excellent to "What just happened?".

But, over time, the Inn has gotten its A-game together. The staff genuinely cares. They try - really, really hard - to make your visit special and memorable. This is true with every single touchpoint - valet, luggage, reception, cleaning, turn-down, restaurant staff, bartender...well, you get the idea. The restaurant for breakfast (blanking on its name) has improved by light years. The overall staff quality, which was always good, has ascended to "excellent" status.

The rooms are great. We've stayed in a few different types, including "suites". Everything is fresh and new. Rooms are well-appointed from soup to nuts. The beds are beyond comfortable. Bathrooms are spacious. All good.

It seems to me that the Morris Inn maybe once upon a time viewed its target market as Notre Dame alums and families. I think that's still true, obviously, but there's no question it has tremendous appeal to people not directly connected with Notre Dame. Like me, for example. There's no mistaking where you are: The "gift shop" has a display window with a half dozen shelves jam-packed with ND paraphernalia, illuminated by lighthouse-level lighting. At eye level are a t-shirt and book emblazoned with "God, Country, Notre Dame". Up in your room, at the end of your bed, is a beautiful, soft, warm blanked. Yes, with the ND logo. All that said, the Inn offers everything any type of traveler could desire.

The Inn's location puts you in perfect position to get out for a walk and check out the campus. Definitely take the time to do this. It is a magnificent spot.

The Morris Inn is not over-the-top cost-wise by any means, but certainly is not the most economical spot in South Bend. It is well worth the $$$, however, given the location and quality of experience you will undoubtedly have. I'm a big fan.

If you're interested in going out of the hotel and a bit off-campus for dinner, "Rocco's", a family-owned (60 years-plus) Italian restaurant is a must. It's maybe a four-minute drive. Everything is great but if you're fortunate enough to be there on a Friday or Saturday, try the lasagna. It made me weep with gratitude.

One last comment: In May 2017, my last visit, the Indiana Toll Road (I-90) was completely torn up the entire way between Portage and South Bend (and beyond). It was a huge, enormous, aggravating mess. Happily, that construction is just about entirely completed.

And just one piece of advice. If you approach the Morris Inn from I-90/Indiana Toll road, you have to pay your toll at one of those imposing non-human gates. If you elect to pay by credit card, note this well: ***You must slide your credit card up, not down, in the slot.*** Yes, there is an arrow showing that, but unless you have bionic vision, it's very difficult to see.
