  • The Gatsby Experience

    by PEG065 on 2017-11-22 11:16 am

My daughter and I travelled to Long Island for the purpose of visiting some of the Mansions on the Gold Coast. While we did want the full Mansion Experience of staying at the Castle it was booked out on the days we were there so we had to make do with the tour.

Laura, our guide, obviously has a passion for Oheka and it shows in the knowledge and enthusiasm she brings to the tour. She gave us a great insight into the Gatsby Era And the people who lived and visited the House. She had extensive knowledge about Otto Khun and his persona as well as lots of information about the Castle itself......it's rise and fall and it's resurrection as the beautiful place it is today.

The place is very welcoming which reflects the warmth of the Castle's current owner. At the end of the tour we were given coffee and biscuits in the family's main dining room or you could opt to have lunch at the restaurant. We were encouraged to take our time to explore and not rushed out.

The tour is very good value at USD $25.00 and an extra USD $25 for a 2 course lunch.

    A highlight of our holiday

  • Great mansion tour

    by Russell M on 2017-11-10 11:59 am

This mansion tour has been on my bucket list for a few years now, and I finally did it in early Nov 2017. It's a pretty impressive house that's been undergoing a multi-year restoration.

The 3rd & 4th floors are off-limits as they are hotel rooms now, as is the basement pool, which will be restored into a hotel spa.

Our tour guide, Laura, gave a very interesting history of the mansion as well as the extensive efforts by Gary, the new owner, in his restoration efforts that have occurred since 1984.

Highly recommended tour of this Otto Herman Kahn (man on the Monopoly game board) mansion of the Gilded Era

  • Wonderful anniversary dinner

    by MSHS5440 on 2017-11-10 09:07 am

I had heard that dinner at the Oheka Castle would be a wonderful experience and it did not disappoint. My husband had been in the restaurant industry for 40+ years and observes service, food (presentation and taste) and ambience with a critical eye. He (and I) thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of it. I would highly recommend lunch or dinner here.

  • Great piece of history

The grounds here are breathtaking. You feel like no matter where you look that it will just put you at peace. During the summer the fireflies are out and add a magic that is indescribable. Even if you don't have time to see anything else in the house, Give yourself some time to just walk around and enjoy it.

  • Afternoon Lunch

    by 529kathleend on 2017-10-12 03:57 pm

My hubby and I enjoyed an absolutely delightful lunch there yesterday.
Our appetizers were wonderful and plentiful - he had a potato/corn cream soup, I had a delicious beet salad. Both were fresh and very well made.
For a main course - he enjoyed a Reuben on a pretzel roll, I a grilled pulled short rib and cheese sandwich. Both were served with outstanding french fries.
We couldn't finish them as they were quite large so we took home great doggy bags!
The service was excellent - thank you Mary Jo - we were never rushed and enjoyed everything completely.
The Castle was very impressive and an outstanding afternoon.
