  • Beautiful resort with mixed feelings.

by hotelsnoblosangeles on 2017-10-19 05:39 am

My husband and I came to Ojai Valley in and Spa for 5 days to celebrate my husbands birthday. It's a gorgeous resort and service is impeccable throughout the Resort. The reason for my 4* review is because of the following. We were a bit surprised at the room we were assigned to for the amount of time we were staying at the resort. We did request and paid for a Vista room (definitely not the least expensive). Our room assignment was in the Casa Robles building. It was right on top of the very loud Jimmy's Pub and Libby's Market. We were unable to utilize our patio due to being in full sight to one of the main roads. Another major hiccup was at Olivella. A beautiful restaurant with amazing service and delicious food. Kudos to the chef. The problem was that I was very specific about being gluten free due to a medical condition that I have. We were reassured on numerous times throughout our meal that it was gluten free, so I ate it with out hesitation. When I had taken a few bites of my dessert and I questioned weather it was GF, the waiter said that it indeed it had a little gluten in it but not to worry because his son too is celiac and eats this cake. I found it suspect that a person with celiac (who can get very ill) would eat this cake. I respectfully suggest that the staff be better versed on gluten free dining for medical necessity-not just eating this way as a fad diet. Guess how does not feel well today????

We've stayed here numerous times and have always enjoyed our stay at this beautiful resort. Make sure you are very specific about which building you stay in and confirm that they have totally gluten free options if you have a serious medical condition.

My husband loved playing golf. I loved my facial with Erika. The gym is totally outdated with no air conditioning in the workout room. Somewhat strange for such a beautiful resort and Spa.

I want to reiterate that ALL staff we encountered were genuinely nice.

  • We love this place!

We didn't think we'd like this place - it sounded too snotty and over-luxurious. But boy were we wrong. It's not simple by any means - no comfort is spared - but you can relax and be yourself. We went in April and then came back in October as soon as we could. What we really love is that you feel you're in another world - removed from the strife and troubles surrounding us. But you're not stuck there - you can quickly hop onto one of their free bikes and tootle downtown along the lovely bike path. Or if you really want to know about the trouble and strife surrounding us, you can pick up a free LA or NYC newspaper at the cafe or enjoy one of the complimentary copies left at each table around the gorgeous pool. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, our room was lovely and comfortable, the grounds are immaculate, the scenery breathtaking, the food delicious, what more can we say? This has become one of our dream places.

  • The Only Place To Stay in Ojai

by slwsweet on 2017-10-14 02:29 pm

If you are staying in Ojai, you must stay here!! The rooms are great, the grounds are gorgeous, the restaurants are good and the golf course is lovely. Try to get a package where breakfast is included. We had a family retreat here in the summer and had three upgraded rooms by the family pool. We had a cabana and the service by the pool was great. We had wee ones, and all had a great time. The spa is very nice and our daughters-in-law enjoyed the yoga and other fitness classes. And the golf course is drop dead gorgeous, especially the front 9 (which used to be the back 9 years ago). The bike path to the ocean is right next to the hotel and is lovely for biking or walking. This is a lovely jewel in Ojai and in my opinion, is the ONLY place to stay.

  • Almost Perfect

Absolutely beautiful! This is a location you will be thinking about long after your trip. Everyone we met was extremely polite and helpful. Service at the 3 or 4 different places we had food/drinks was stellar. My wife had a couple of spa treatments, and very much enjoyed them. Food, both at the pool and for breakfast, was excellent. The property itself is stunning. Lots of room to walk/hike/bike, and many places to just sit and enjoy.

With all of that said, this should be a slam-dunk five star, right? Maybe not. My wife and I were there midweek at the end of September, which I am guessing is probably shoulder season here. We were in the building that is attached to the restaurants (I can't recall the name), and while the resort was busy, it certainly didn't seem packed. The first morning, we were started awake at 7AM sharp. At first, we thought it was just thin walls and perhaps neighbors being loud. We didn't ask for a room change. The next morning, the same thing. Except this time we could hear the service carts being rolled just outside and next to our room (we were on the end of a hallway). At this point, we only had one more night and didn't think it was worth the effort to pack and move. Last morning, same drill. Not particularly relaxing. We mentioned this at checkout, and while the front desk folks seemed genuinely disappointed, they did not seem the least surprised. Again, if the resort were full and this was the last room available, then I get it. That was not the case. There is no way this room should have been open to guests if there were any other rooms available. Or maybe housekeeping shouldn't start going around at 7AM.

When staying here, I would look around for service elevators, staircases, and maybe inquire about when and where housekeeping will appear. Otherwise, industrial strength earplugs might be in order.

  • Quiet Oasis

Have come here over the years many times. Our recent visit last week was particularly nice. This is a special place in a special valley. We enjoyed a mid week special package and got upgraded to a deluxe room. Our check in and out was efficient. The rooms near the spa have been modernized since our last visit. I like the glass shower and the iPad as the alarm clock. We enjoyed our evening meal al fresco during the pink moment on the patio and were surprised by a special treat....the full moon rise. We usually come for spa treatments. My massage therapist, Claire was outstanding! My only regret is that the jacuzzi in the women's locker area was too cool and that the jacuzzi outside the women's area had poorly working jets. I did locate a working outside jacuzzi near the main spa pool. Also enjoyed a casual breakfast at Libbey's overlooking the lawn. Nice addition. Allows for a quick breakfast. There are fire pits for evening relaxation in front of Jimmy's.
Not cheap but worth the peaceful ambience.
