  • Historic Inn

The reason to stay at the Old Faithful Inn is the historic charm and its location. The Inn was built over 100 years ago from native Lodge Pole Pine Trees - it is rustic and architecturally stunning. It is located right next to Old Faithful Geyser so you can watch the Geyser blow from the hotel or walk 100 yards and get a front row viewing. Other than the charm and location, I found the hotel to be lacking. Upon arrival, the front desk clerk process me through. She seemed harried - I expect there is a lot of turnover and they are overworked. At some point I was asked if I would like to forgo house cleaning - that meant no fresh towels or bed linens. The thought was to preserve water and help the environment. The way she presented it turned me off - If I am going to spend what they charge for a room, I better get a clean towel every couple of days. Then there are the rooms. I had upgraded to the East Wing, which is a newer addition with a bathroom attached to the room. In the quaint, but more rustic main lodge, guests have to go to a shared shower and toilet down the hall. My room was Spartan. I did have 2 queen beds, the firm mattress was comfortable and there was a tall armoire for hanging clothes. The armoire came with 4 hangers. After 2 requests, I did get 5 more hangers to put away our coats. There was no dresser or any other place to put away clothing. That meant living out of the suitcase on the floor. We were there for a week. No Television. No WiFi. No telephones. I think this is conscious as they want you to unplug and concentrate on natural beauty. Understand, but in today's world an internet connection would have been nice. The wooden floors vibrate when your neighbors are walking down the hallway and that adds to the charm I suppose. There is a deli, gift shop, dining room, bar and common areas to sit and relax. On a few evenings, there was beautiful live music being played with added to the ambience. Overall, I don't think there is much of a choice. Stay at the overpriced Old Faithful Inn or drive a couple of hours to get to Yellowstone each day.

  • Clean and Neat room

We have stayed in Old faithful Inn for 1 night and explored the nearby places. It is closer to many of the Geysers. And you can view the Old faithful Geyser from the lobby of this Inn. Room was quite small and expensive. They have maintained it clean and neat.

  • Great location and lovely experience staying at the Old Faithful Inn.

We stayed in a East Wing Premium Room with 1 Queen bed early September. Very spacious ground floor corner room at the end of the corridor with a view towards car park. Nice room, clean and comfy. Only negative point was that the floors were noisy so we could hear people moving around in the room above us from 5:20 am.

The older part of the Inn is a very interesting building. We pre-booked a table (2-3 weeks before) and had an evening meal in the Old Faithful Inn dining room, we enjoyed the food and experience and would highly recommend it.

Location was fantastic allowing easy access to the geyser as we tried to catch the eruption times. We managed to watch Old Faithful erupt in the evening, at night and early morning with very few crowds. Certainly worth staying so close.

  • Great base of operations for touring Yellowstone

Echo what others have said, its the location. Spent 4 days visiting all parts of the part from here. Lobby is amazing, sipping coffee by the fireplace was very relaxing. Accommodations were a bit pricey for what it was, but that was expected. Friendly, no stress environment (went off-season so no crowds).

  • Location, Location, Location!

OK! This is an historic hotel with a magnificent lobby. The hotel is about as close to Old Faithful as you can get and it has stood the test of time. In today's standards, the rooms are small and a little dreary but if you were here a 100 years ago, these are luxurious digs. And you cannot stay in a better location than this. We stayed in the West Wing in a standard room. It was comfy and very clean. We spent very little time in the room so it was ok. The great thing was when the daytrippers all left, we had the hotel and the geysers to ourselves. The music in the lobby was very nice and the tour of OFI was great. Put yourself back a century and it's very cool. We wanted to do the flag raising/lowering and found out you have to call far in advance. We had sleet, snow and fog but still managed to see OF from the covered porch and enjoy a beverage while waiting. All in all, this is a "do not miss" historic place to enjoy and remember how things used to be.
