  • Lovely historic site, make sure you book a room with a private bath

Truly historic site. Lovely place to have a drink. The rooms are tiny with no air conditioning. Luckily we booked a room with a private bath so we didn't have to walk down the hall. The food was okay but not great. The ice cream shop closed early every night. We left our bedroom windows open and were visited by chipmunks or something that ate through sealed kind bars. Old faithful is right outside the lodge.

  • Great Service

I had a problem with a window here and after complaining, they gave me an upgrade - I wasn't out to draw blood - these guys just went out of their way to help me and as promised, here is my review! Thank you to the team at Old Faithful ...

  • Quirky and convenient

This is the premium place to stay at Old Faithful geyser, but be prepared for an old building which lacks some modern convenience. First of all there are no lifts in the wings where most of the rooms are, so this means a porter will carry your bags up and down stairs and miles of corridors when you arrive - and then you have to do the same on your own when you leave (great for working off all those huckleberry pancakes). Our Deluxe room was large and with a white-tiled bathroom with full bath. Be aware the walls are thin - we were treated to long periods of our neighbor's conversations and laughing into the small hours. It's not cheap either but the location is fantastic, plus sitting with a pre-dinner glass of red wine in the monumental and cathedral-like reception area is unbeatable.

  • It's not about comfort, it's about architecture and history

by LorraineMontana on 2018-01-24 12:39 am

We were willing to stay in this place with lopsided floors and tiny bathrooms because it's a piece of incredible history and gorgeous log architecture. We arrived late at night when all was still and it was an incredible privilege to explore with no one around...and then to hear Old Faithful erupt while we were in bed was a thrill. The dining hall is magnificent and the gentleman carving prime rib of bison at the buffet was a font of local history. All of the darling college kids working here from all over the world for the summer were very welcoming and excited to be in the Park...and so were we. It's a privilege to stay in this grand old lodge.

  • Worst national park lodge

The Old Faithful Inn is a beautiful historical landmark and will be reviewed as an attraction separately. As an accommodation, it was terrible - false advertising, horrible service and poor value for money.

My husband and I booked the West Wing Premium Room with 2 queen beds ($290 per night), which supposedly faces the geyser basin but actually faces the parking lot in front of the inn (see photo). The entire west wing faces the parking lot. Although the east wing faces the Old Faithful geyser, views from the lower floor rooms are blocked by big trees. There are 3-4 rooms with geyser view, which are probably the suites. So unless you can shell out $500 per night for a suite, don't stay here.

The "premium" room was very basic - no microwave, fridge or hair dryer. There is a small coffee maker in the room, as well as an ice machine on every floor. For those considering bringing their own food into the park, the closest microwave is located in Hamilton's Store next to the inn.

Yellowstone was part of our honeymoon trip. I called the reservation office prior to our arrival to request a room with a view. They said they would try their best. During check in, the reception told us that they never received the request and gave us a room in the basement of the west wing (room 1160). We asked for a room on a higher floor given the occasion but were told that they were fully booked. The level of service was extremely disappointing, especially compared to the other national park lodges that we've stayed at (Big Bend, Yosemite, Grand Teton). Yosemite not only gave us a "honeymoon room" with direct view to the falls but also made us a complimentary fruit and cheese platter. This was our worst national park lodge experience ever.
