  • Too big for its britches

This hotel was highly recommended so we booked 6 nights. We were checked into a very small room - 1 king nonsmoking. The front desk texted my husband and asked if we were satisfied and we said no, we were staying 6 nights and would like a little more room. They happily switched us the next day to a different room that was SMALLER. We gave up. The first room we couldn't use the outlets to charge our phones/computers. That was frustrating. The second room we found enough outlets to satisfy our tech charging needs. When we sat down the first night in the bar/check-in area (very iconically pretty) the first waiter was rude. I guess there is a button you are supposed to push that's on the table. We couldn't read it in the dim light. One button is to call the server. One button is to cancel the server and one button is to call for your bill. Not being able to see (in the dim light) I just generally pushed a button, not knowing there were three. So like I said the first guy was a bit rude. After I put on my glasses and read the button thing I called a server and Javier showed up and he was very, very accommodating and a wonderful server. The elevators on the weekend are SO very crowded because this hotel is huge. We found that after the weekend we were able to get an elevator car quickly without the large crowds. This hotel is beautiful, but I would probably stay at a smaller hotel next time that would really listen to my needs. Still, there is a Starbucks inside and a CVS across the street and Verizon 1 block away and the theater is 1 1/2 blocks away...I would stay in River North where most of our attractions and restaurants were located (or at least were close).

  • Lovely Hotel

We stayed at the Palmer House during the beginning of our summer vacation. This is an older hotel that has a lot of character. It is well maintained. Our room was on the small size but we had two nice sized bathrooms. This came in handy with two adults and two tweens. The staff was friendly and helpful. My one complaint is that there was no in room coffee service. I NEED coffee as soon as I get up. I'm guessing that because there is a Starbucks in the lobby, they contract, no in room coffee service. I've seen this in other hotels that have Starbucks in the lobby. Nice central location to all of our activities.

  • Beautiful common areas, the lobby but the rooms are small and dated.

The Lobby is beautiful and I like the Lobby bar and the fact that you can push a button to get service. The rooms are small and dated. My room in particular had peeling wall paper in the bathroom. I alerted the staff but nothing was done. The rooms are expensive but the hotel is well located. .

  • For a Historical hotel, other than lobby, was not impressed

Lobby beautiful, but past that I was disappointed especially with food choices. Maid rushed me out of room at 11 which was check-out but said she had to get me out so she could clean for the next person

  • Historic Hotel

I stayed at this really beautiful historic hotel while attending a convention at the McCormick Center. The hotel has the most incredible bar lobby area. Right out of the tourist books. Just beautiful! The rooms are old fashioned but in a nice way. It is very near the elevated subway but the noise was minimal. We were shuttled to the convention center from the hotel. Definitely worth a stay if in Chicago.
