  • Overall easy to get to and well kept up

    by Christy L on 2017-11-16 08:08 am

My husband and I stayed overnight. We had a few drinks at the bar (small but quaint), and then had dinner at the Cherry Dining room. The food was good, we were the only ones in the dining hall when we first arrived (start of dinner hour). It was very peaceful. We had breakfast the next morning and it was off a menu vs a buffet. It was also very good. Nice views over the lake. It's a smaller lodge. Less than 20 rooms, but laid back and peaceful. We'd probably go again but next time in warmer weather.

  • Breakfast disappointing, Dinner excellent, Lodge nice

    by Ed D on 2017-10-23 02:40 pm

While we liked the lodge and their dinner menu is excellent, the breakfast was disappointing. Given how nice everything else is, there is no reason not to have a better breakfast and an option of menu or buffet or menu. The website says there is a breakfast buffet on Sundays, but makes no mention that it's other days too, like Saturday. The buffet is eggs, pancakes, sausage/bacon, biscuits & gravy, fruit that is mostly melon and small pastries. It's all quite mediocre. There's no oatmeal, no yogurt, no cereal for the kids. They can and should do better. On top of it, my in-laws were with us, both of them near 80. They don't each much so they asked instead of the full buffet, could they just have a couple of things like a little fruit or a pastry. They were still charged the full buffet price of $10/person. We had to argue in order to get a a reduction. How this place can do so well for their dinner menu and be so disappointing for breakfast is really a .

If you want a better breakfast when staying here, there is a very good restaurant in Burton just 5 minutes away. That's where we went on our second morning.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I hope we have enough snow for the dog sleds this winter so you can come back. It has been tough the last few years. We will keep our fingers crossed!

  • Laid back and peaceful

    by Jimmy R on 2017-09-26 08:30 pm

Punderson Manor is very laid back and peaceful. People should get use to a slower pace while visiting. My food was hot and fresh and the place was clean. I was able to roam free on the grounds and enjoyed all the fantastic views. This place is not bad for a state park!

  • A sad mix of potential and shortfall.

    by David J on 2017-09-24 03:10 pm

This a sad mix of potential and shortfall. The facility has real character and I have been there for receptions, parties etc as well as occasions for breakfast and lunch with clients.
The potential is the ambiance of the facility in a beautiful natural setting, particularly in the Fall. The shortfall is in the catering which fluctuates so much. As stated earlier, I was there for a party recently and returned the following morning for breakfast with the family. The party catering was really lackluster for the fees that they were charging, but the breakfast buffet was embarrassing.
It consisted of heated pans/half; pans of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, small potato cuts, biscuits and gravy and pancakes. There were a few pastries available - definitely an outside purchase - and minimal fruit. None of the pans had active heating pots and thus the food was cold. The bacon was so burnt that it was almost impossible fo pick up without shattering and we had to request more eggs - as the pan was empty - and potatoes - because they had been there so long that they had become chips.
The staff was pleasant enough but with just seven clients there at the time - three servers to seven at three tables - one would expect that they would notice that the food needed care or customers needed more coffee. For all of that, we were charged the standard buffet rate of $15 per head including tax and tip. Please management, your facility has so much potential, try to raise your game.

Thank you for your candid review David.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with our breakfast buffet. It certainly does not sound like anything I have seen us put out and we certainly take pride in what we serve our guests. I will forward your comments to our culinary team and we can always strive to be better. It also came as a surprise that you were not happy with the event you attended. During the month of August we received all good post event comments from our groups. At the end of the day, I feel like our prices are fair and the feedback we are getting from our groups has been wonderful as of late. I am sorry if we were not up to your standards in regard to this particular event. If you would like to speak to me further, please contact me at my office number at 440-564-2602.

    Thank you.
