Riverwalk Vista

Riverwalk Vista in San AntonioRiverwalk Vista in San Antonio

Overview

Unlike a number of urban buildings that grow with its host city, the Riverwalk Vista actually contributed to the prosperity of San Antonio. The hotel’s first incarnation was a mercantile store built by Austrian immigrant George Dullnig in 1883. The three-story structure quickly became the city’s largest employer and, as such, offered several technological advancements, including a mechanical elevator, steam heat, a soda fountain and an on-site artisan well. Its century-old status shouldn’t imply that the building and its amenities still date the back to the early 1900s; the 17 exclusive guest rooms on the second and third floors underwent extensive renovations in 2001. Each room in the boutique hotel is named after its view of River Walk or the downtown San Antonio skyline, and each is furnished with period antiques, quilts and upscale amenities. The San Antonio icon, The Alamo, is within easy walking distance of the hotel.

The Dullnig Building featured San Antonio's first mechanical elevator, steam heat and soda fountain.
