Overview

Constructed in 1892, the historic Sheridan Inn gave adventurous travelers a taste of Eastern luxury in the rugged West. Through the years, the Inn has remained a hub of activity, offering elegant New Year’s Eve balls and the town’s first electric lights. Buffalo Bill Cody sat on the front porch of the Sheridan Inn auditioning acts to join “Buffalo Bill’s Wild West” show.

The hotel was designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark in 1964. In 1966, Neltje Kings purchased the Inn and began renovations. She sold it in 1983 and the historic Wyoming hotel passed through multiple hands. Efforts to renovate the Sheridan Inn continued for years.

In October 2013, Bob and Dana Townsend became the newest owners of the Inn, bringing 21st century luxury to the 19th century building. Renovations on the second and third floor was finished and the Inn is open for overnight stays, banquet events, weddings, and tours. The restaurant, The Open Range has been open since January 2015 and the hotel portion of the Inn has been open since May 15, 2015.

One of this historic inn's most distinguishing features is the large, roomy porch which wraps around the north, south, and east elevations. The porch is a favorite amongst guests of the Sheridan Inn, including Buffalo Bill Cody back in his time. Historic photographs provide evidence of Cody relaxing on the porch.

William F."Buffalo Bill" Cody, part owner of the Sheridan Inn, developed and sold the concept of The Inn to the railroad.
