The Broadmoor's East Course is known for its wide, tree-lined fairways and expansive greens. With its challenging terrain and amazing mountain vistas, The East Course is ranked among the best golf courses in the country. Since the large trees can alter your shots and the putting greens difficult to read, the best tip we can offer for those taking on this open course is to remember that putts break away from the mountains.
The East Course has been home to many major tournaments, including the 1959 U.S. Amateur (which was Jack Nicklaus' first major win), the 1964 U.S. Amateur, and the 1995 U.S. Women's Open, which was Annika Sorenstam's first major title. Most recently, the famous course served as the host to the 2008 U.S. Senior Open and the 2011 U. S. Women's Open Championship.
West Golf Course
At 6,200 feet, this 18-hole course has more doglegs and steeply-angled greens, and is higher in elevation than the East Course. The rolling fairways and multilevel greens overlook both the city and the mountains.
The West Course plays tighter off the tee, with more heavily tree-lined holes than the East Course, and also gives the player many spectacular approach shots. Huge, formidable sand bunkers seem to be everywhere, and water hazards enhance three of the par threes. Don't let the stunning mountain views distract you while on this course. The doglegs and steeply-angled greens make for a very challenging round of golf.
After undergoing renovations by Nicklaus Design, the Mountain Course was reopened in July 2006 and plays to a maximum of 7,700 yards, par 72. This beautifully designed course features wide, forgiving fairways and large greens with beautiful mountain vistas, ideal for a range of skill levels and handicaps.
In 1959, Jack Nicklaus won his first national title and first major championship, the US Amateur Championship, on the links at The Broadmoor. Now, 49 years later, his company, Nicklaus Design, brings the legacy full-circle, with a redesign of one of the most beloved Broadmoor golf venues, the Mountain Course. Working in collaboration with Nicklaus Design, a wonderfully scenic and playable golf course has been created.
