  • Bed bugs in train car bed

    by Kw55wm on 2018-03-19 05:13 pm

I booked a night here for for son who loved the idea of staying in an antique train. When we got to our room it smelled strongly of must and urine. The carpet was filthy and stained and the grates in the ceiling were covered with an inch of dust. I wanted to leave immediately but my son loved the idea of staying in a train so we unpacked before leaving for dinner. BIG MISTAKE!! Later that night, we got ready for bed and turned down the covers to find bugs on the sheets. I'm not an expert so I can't say for sure what they were but I'd guess bed bugs!! I called the front desk and they offered to refund my money right away. By the time I got to the lobby, they had already issued me a refund and quickly advised me to go to the laundromat down the street and wash the contents of my suitcase with really hot water. It seemed to me that they knew there was a problem with bed bugs! This hotel is disgusting. It's a great concept but not worth the risk of getting a bed bug infestation in your luggage.

  • Great stay during Spring Break

The Chattanooga Choo Choo is a hotel in the Southside Historic District in downtown Chattanooga, about one mile south of the famous Tennessee Aquarium. It is a very special hotel in that it is located on the grounds of a former railway station, and some of the hotel rooms are in fact remodeled train cars. The railway station was known as Chattanooga's Terminal Station and operated until 1970. It reopened as a hotel in 1973.

The whole place has a nice historic flair to it, and it is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The main station building is also an architectural icon and one of Chattanooga's attractions. The building features an arched main entrance and a central ceiling dome that is about 80 feet tall. Currently there is some renovation work going on and not all areas are accessible.

The hotel rooms in the former train cars have a special atmosphere. Everything is totally authentic. We were told that the hotel purchased the cars at the price of the scrap metal (a few thousand dollars at the time). The insides of the cars have been remodeled to make a modern hotel room with bathroom, TV, and internet.

Each of these train cars has a name and it wasn't clear to us whether this designation was to honor a sponsor or what else its meaning may be. Between the train cars is a nicely maintained garden that invites you to have a time of rest and quiet.

Absolutely loved this place. The historic building is absolutely Beautiful. The hotel was very nice, the beds were comfortable, the indoor was very nice and well kept, the room was clean, parking wasn't a problem and I love that it's closed off to outside traffic that aren't hotel guests. I would love to see the garden when in bloom. The only improvement I would recommend is putting stops on the room doors so that they don't close so loudly.

  • Underwhelmed

We couldn't come to Chattanooga and not see the choo choo. It's a stunning train but they really don't make enough of it. It sits in the station and you can go onboard for pics but there's little info and no entrance fee. There's a little men's shop on another train and a bar that was closed on a carriage but all in all I felt distinctly underwhelmed !

  • Great spot

Absolutely loved this place. Old railroad cars converted into motel rooms with all the amenities and look stunning. The check in desk is in the original station lobby and is beautiful with a gorgeous doomed roof. There is a beautiful garden in the middle of the railroad cars that would be perfect for wedding photos. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms are very cozy and nicely decorated. Very easy to get to off Hey 75.
