The Colony Hotel

Overview
The Colony Hotel is spectacularly situated amid glorious and manicured gardens on a rocky promontory above the Atlantic Ocean. The white wooden structure was built in 1914 and spans a full 300 feet, topped by a cupola and the weather vane of a large ship. The wrap-around Ocean Porch and the gazebo offer views of the ocean and river. The Colony became Maine's first environmentally responsible hotel in 1994.
The Colony has been a family-run business since 1948, and the hotel’s amenities have expanded with each generation, from the gentile attraction of afternoon tea, fresh-cut flowers, white wicker chairs and lawn games to its heated saltwater swimming pool, private safe-surf beach and gorgeous organic gardens. The hotel’s distinct silhouette is visible from both land and sea, serving as a landmark for seafaring vessels for decades and as a benchmark for all coastal hotels in the state.
The hotel recycles worn bedspreads and linens into handcrafted items sold in the gift shop and aprons for kitchen staff.
