  • High Tea

by biyapi on 2018-07-17 06:53 pm

I might need to place this review in a different location- but it is specifically for their high tea- which I definitely recommend. I've done about 10 high tea services in Chicago several times- and this one has always been my favorite- it is one of the original- attended by even Princess Diana years ago when visiting. It has a good mix of savory with the sweet- and unlike most tea services- actually gives you refills on your sandwiches/ scones/ pastries. They always have a beautiful seasonal centerpiece and a harpist- and if it is your birthday you also receive a delicious piece of flourless chocolate cake.

  • Very Nice.....just expected more with it being "The Drake" Hotel of Chicago

My wife and I were looking for an overnight stay for a concert at Wrigley Field. The hotel prices in the downtown area ranged from 250 low end to 500 higher end. Our price at the Drake was in the $300-$400 range, and it being the Drake, we were very excited. The pricing for parking is expensive for an overnight, so we opted for a closer spot using the app SpotHero, we saved about $15 and it was a short walk. Upon our arrival at about 3:30 for a 3pm checkin, the room wasn't ready. I expected a little more from a place like the Drake. They made up for it by giving us a credit to use for a late lunch in pub downstairs and would call us when the room was ready. They seemed a bit understaffed in the pub because it took a good 20 min. to get drinks and put our order in. The call came in at 4pm that the room was ready and our lunch was pretty good. We then headed upstairs and the room was huge, and it made the TV seem a little small, but as previous reviewers had stated, there wasn't a robe, there was an empty minibar with no fridge, which seemed odd being the Drake Hotel of Chicago. We did enjoy our stay and had the buffet breakfast downstairs which was great, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is beautiful, the staff was friendly, just expected a little more in the service department, and the amenities in the room. After our concert, we walked in and in the lobby my wife and I decided to go into the incredible ball room and a night cap as we danced to the live band. I'll be back but with lower expectations.

  • Drake Hotel, one of the Historic Hotels of American

Beautiful old Hotel in the heart of Chicago. Dark and elegant reminding you of the 20's. Stayed in the Executive Suite overlooking Lake Shore Drive to the North and Oak Street beach and the lake to the East. Bar is old school and quiet and easy to relax and enjoy a drink before hitting the City. As you walk in you are overwelmed by the outstanding architecture and finishings. Bell Captain took our bags (you don't see these at Days Inn) and allowed us to have a drink and hit the City until our Suite was ready. Prices the same as all Downtown location for the night (350 ish area for the Suite) and bar/Dining Room prices similiar) Having stayed downtown frequently being on the North end of teh city we were not awakened constantly from the Ambulance/Fire/Police sirens banging off teh building as we do when in the downtown area.

  • Excitement turned to disappointment

by iloveItalyUsa on 2018-07-16 03:50 am

My husband was so excited for us to stay at The Drake. As a child, he visited the hotel with his grandparents and has always shared his wonderful memories with me. We were in Chicago for a wedding and it stated out perfectly. The valet was wonderful and friendly as was the lady at the front desk that made it possible for an early check in. The bellman had our luggage in our room promptly and we left a bag with an expensive wedding gift on the street, it was delivered to our room and the bellman would not accept our trip. He was a true gentleman.
We were in an executive room and had the most wonderful panoramic view of the lake. We were disappointed to discover the room had no refrigerator, no robes and slippers and no mini bar.
We decided to go to the bar on the club level and were disappointed in the room itself but there was a very nice lady that made our drinks and replenished our snacks.
Returned to club floor for breakfast at 7am and everything was different. We found the staff very rude, and disengaged. The woman was extremely rude to the point I almost confronted her but chose to ignore. She cleaned our table several times while were were still enjoying our coffee, and we felt rushed and unwelcome. When we did leave, I looked toward their work space and she pulled the young man out of the kitchen and both just stared as I walked out. ( I sound paranoid, but honestly this happened) I am not finished with her! That left a sour taste in my mouth but I decided not to let it ruin my time there.
I am hoping to go back in the future but I would not stay on an executive floor, as mentioned club is not worth it and you pay for your drinks) but will always try to get that lovely view of the lake. Had it not been for the rude woman my review would have been different.
