  • Overpriced

by ArlingtonVaSonnet on 2017-11-21 09:16 am

The location in Lexington VA is superb and the service as well plus a great breakfast. The room was clean and pleasant. That having been said, the room was horribly overpriced due to Founders Day at VMI. The room was terribly drafty and a transom over the door was open to too much light making sleep at night uncomfortable. The stairs were narrow and steep. Stay somewhere else in Lexington.

  • Beautiful Hotel in Equally Beautiful Town

    by C0rgiL0ver on 2017-11-14 07:53 am

Friendly and helpful staff from the very moment we arrived through our departure. Good food at the bar which featured local craft beers. Excellent room nicely decorated. Within walking distance of local sites. Overall, a great experience.

The attention to detail makes your staff extra special. The gorgeous accommodations rival any luxury hotel. My room was extremely comfortable with Frette sheets, working fireplace, soaking tub and heated floors.

  • Nice rooms but noisy!

    by John H on 2017-11-03 05:41 am

Nicely appointed and very clean rooms. Beautiful actually. I had room number 6 which is directly above the front desk and front door on Main Street. Could hear people talking on street, in hall, and in lobby. Street sweeper or some commercial truck loud on street at 5:30 am. Room rate includes breakfast but my perspective a very expensive room for terrible nights sleep. If you stay, ask for a rom on the back side.

    Owner Response
Dear John H, thank you for sharing your review of The Georges with other Trip Advisor users. I am terribly sorry about the noisy night you experienced, and I apologize. There have been occasional complaints to me about loud groups after hours in our TAPS lobby lounge disturbing guests in Room 6, but until now had not heard about disturbing voices in the hall or on the street. Everyone staying or living downtown is bothered by the excessive noise of the street sweeper and garbage trucks at 5;30 a.m., and I am working with other hotels in the downtown area to get that stopped. Hopefully, your comments will help. In the meantime, I am looking for ways to insulate Room 6 from ambient noise. I appreciate the fact the even a "beautiful" room is unsatisfactory when it is not quiet enough to sleep. I do hope you will give another of our rooms a try when you next visit Lexington. Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention.

  • Lexington Hospitality at Georges Hotel

    by elvisdog01 on 2017-11-01 09:41 am

Wonderful property that is a great ambassador to the Lexington community. We arrived late and the pleasant demeanor of the front desk receptionist treated us as if we were the most important arrival of the day. We had a special request that was accommodated without hesitation. Taps (on property restaurant) was the only restaurant open on Monday night and was a welcome respite from a day of travel. The waitress was charming, always smiling and knowledgable of the menu. The chili, fried oysters and steak sandwich were uniquely prepared and delicious. The entire property is well appointed down to the heated bathroom floors and towel racks, to the comfortable beds, linens, rugs and comfortable seating in our room. Towels were large, soft and heated. We were greeted by the manager during our complimentary morning breakfast who confirmed our reason for staying at The Georges. He was sincerely interested in our comfort and comments. Just an example of making us feel like genuine guests, we asked for grits with our prepared breakfast and they went across the street to their sister property to deliver grits hot and on time with our omelets and fresh fruit breakfast - wow! BTW- they should include grits on their menu anyway, they were delicious... and spoiler alert, we are in VA - right? This was just an example of the special treatment you can expect from the staff. Located in the center of town allows you to safely park at year of property and walk to all point of interest with The Georges property centrally located as your home base. Fresh baked cookies and complimentary water bottles rejuvenated our morning before we headed out. Our recommendation is to call ahead and ask about the rooms before you book. They are all unique and while some of you may enjoy the balconies on main street, others like ourselves, prefer the quiet courtyard rooms in the back with a covered porch. Our room was luxurious old world comfort with all modern conveniences. If you happen to reserve a room near the security light - no worries, ask for the blackout drapes and they will be installed in 5 minutes for a restful sleep. If you want a total experience that includes a gourmet meal, book your stay on Wed-Sun and try the restaurant across the street at the sister property. No matter when you book, stay here and enjoy the best of Lexington.

Dear elvisdog01, thank you for your review of The Georges! I'm delighted that you found our hotel very well appointed and our restaurants serving good food, but I am especially pleased with the outgoing, helpful and personal service you experienced with our staff. And, yes, I have asked our chef to routinely offer grits with breakfast! You are absolutely correct that this *is* Virginia, and they should be offered every morning! Please come back to visit with us again soon! --Brian Eckert, General Manager
