  • An excellent alternative to the monster Marriott across the street that takes up a whole block.

From the outside, one might expect that the Henley Park Hotel could've been in the Exorcist movie that filmed here years ago. But that was in Georgetown, and this is central DC on Massachusetts Avenue, a block from the DC Convention Center. This is absolutely in the boutique hotel class, because, well, that's what we call old hotels that have been made into modern, attractive hotels. You can tell you're in a boutique hotel because the elevators were made for people who lived in the 1920s and 1930's who were, apparently, much smaller. The front desk service was what one might expect at a hotel like this, which is 'good-enough,' and you will hear no one rave about it. What you will hear people rave about is the charm and other-days-ness of the hotel, with charming appointments, smallish rooms, and comfortable sitting areas with fireplaces. We were there in August, and August in DC is not the time for fireplaces of course. We also like the Henley for it's location. It is a short 5-7 blocks down New York Avenue to Lafayette Park, the Treasury Building, and most importantly, Old Ebbitt Grill. This is also the area where the White House is, but of course, real Presidents have not lived there for the last 8 months. On the other side of the Henley is Chinatown and the beautiful Portrait Gallery. There is a Metro stop at the DC Convention Center, so even though it might not seem so, the Henley Park is desirable for it's location. So do not let the spooky exterior scare you. It is a treasure inside.

  • A+ hotel, employees and location

    by Brad F on 2017-10-11 08:39 am

The desk employees and the doormen could not have been more helpful and courteous. We had 2 rooms for 2 nights and everything was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay at the Henley Park hotel again when visiting the city. Thank you Kimberly for your help with the reservation

  • Small, intimate, gorgeous building

    by Nancy C on 2017-10-02 02:05 pm

This is a small hotel that's easy to navigate! Pull right up to the front door, walk a few steps to reception, then go a few more steps to the elevators. They have a wonderful afternoon tea and restaurants are good. The rooms used to have more character but then they got hold of some 'designer' who made all the rooms look like every other hotel room (too bad). We stayed here again about a month ago, after an absence of several years, and found it to still be inviting and easy. Especially if you like elegant architecture and want something besides a cookie cutter, square, lifeless modern hotel like those they seem to be putting up the last few years in DC. If you don't like small, intimate hotels, you'll want to go elsewhere.

  • Friendly staff, could do with updating but pleasant stay!

    by newtraveller77 on 2017-09-29 02:53 pm

We stayed here for 3 nights, check in was swift. Room and bathroom were both quite small and we had quite a bit of luggage as we were travelling around 4 different cities but we managed ok! Bed was not comfy at all as it was almost dipped in the middle, thankfully because we were out doing all the sites we were exhausted so it didn't effect our sleep too much but as with the room in general it could definetly do with updating and modernising! The lobby and bar areas are beautiful though! Just to mention on that Saturday evening 9th sept, we called into bar for a night cap and the bar maid didn't catch her name was lovely, great service, great fun we only wish we had went in earlier in the evening! Hotel is close to lots of the tourist attractions, because Washington is so spread out over a big area I don't think any area is close to everything! Room was clean, bottled water provided every day, would recommend and stay again!

  • Had a wonderful stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night when we went to the Roger Water's concert. I loved that it was in walking distance of most of the top sights. We were also upgraded from a standard queen room to the Junior suite. We loved our room and the quaintness of the hotel. We ate at the restaurant and it was ok, not exceptional. Would definitely recommend and stay again!
