  • Small and nothing special

    by JJG72 on 2018-07-06 12:52 am

The room was very small. The bathroom needed some work. The best part of the place was the bar downstairs. Bar food was pretty good and it was a nice atmosphere. The price seemed for the room seemed high but it was mostly due to location.

  • Hotel Condones Fraud -- Avoid!!!

    by jc10016 on 2018-07-02 01:20 pm

First of all, this hotel is definitely comparable to a 2-star hotels, definitely not 4-star material. I came here with another colleague on business, and the service I received is beyond frustrating and demeaning.

The carpets were dingy, and bathroom fixtures are outdated. The water pressure is very low. Overall, it's in dire need of a renovation. There was no power outlet close to the bed, so this hotel is not ideal for business travelers that need to have a charged phone in the morning while answering emails while in bed. The smell of the room overall is musky, and the bed smelled like moth balls. The business center has one ancient, painfully slow computer with a black and white printer.

The sale price is misleading... you are definitely not getting a deal. There are much better options for $140. On the hotels.com app it stated that the original price was around $500, clearly to deceive people into booking this. Worst of all, someone charged my room $85 dollars at the restaurant for three meals that I did not authorize. That charge was around 40 minutes after I had closed my check with my colleague. After arriving back to NYC, I noticed that charge and made them aware that it was fraudulent. However, instead of assisting, they are still desperately trying to keep the charge on my account despite all the evidence pointing that fraud had occurred.

The manager provided me a copy of the bill with a signature and handwriting that was not mine. I pointed it out and asked him to compare it to my handwriting on the check-in document. His response? "Anyone can change their handwriting. It doesn't prove anything." I asked him to check the security footage to which he responded, "there are no security cameras." Remembering that I had left right after breakfast, I checked my Uber receipt which showed that I had arrived at my destination 20 minutes before the check was closed. The manager stated that this was no proof.

The manager even accused me of orchestrating this to avoid paying a lunch bill. I have the chase sapphire, a great card that will reimburse me for this charge no matter what. But the fact that they are so adamant about not investigating this serious issue makes me wonder how ethical the management is. This is by far the only hotel in which I have ever stayed where I had an issue with someone charging my room unauthorized. It seems like The Henley Park Hotel condones fraud! I will definitely scratch this hotel from authorized hotels for my organization's employees.
I will submit a link of the documents and email exchanges to allow other travelers avoid unethical hotels.

  • cozy, friendly downtown piece of history

Convenient location across from Marriott, 1 block from Convention Center and Metro station. Took a chance the first time we stayed here, came back for value and comfort on what will be several stays. Entrance/lobby is quaint (ok, it is small) as are elevators, but the rooms are huge for a big city. Beds are very comfortable, towels are thick, water pressure is plentiful and cleanliness is clearly a source of pride for the staff. We didn't try bar/dining, although afternoon tea looked tempting.

  • Enjoyed Breakfast

Stayed at Henley Park for just one night. It was clean with comfortable bedding. Breakfast in the morning was great. One issue I had was with the constant knocking by hotel staff. I was woken up several times for various reasons.

  • Love the historical vibe!

A nice change from your generic chain hotel. The doormen were welcoming and helpul as were the front desk staff. The rooms were small but comfortable, clean and cozyl We had everything we needed. The decor from the front living room area to the inside of the elevators was so interesting and funky. I will rate the Tavern in a separate review, but that was also top notch!!! Great location with cool restaurants nearby. I'd return!!!
