  • Points Schmoints!

    by Paul1107 on 2018-07-18 06:20 pm

Typical of people who travel a lot for business, My default is to look to a chain or 2 where I accumulate points. So for that reason and for budget purposes I was booked into one of my usual places and it was not that inexpensive and all the way down in Franklin. All the good downtown hotels were running well over $300. So long story short, I get there and the place is under construction and very loud and I asked and they let me cancel out. I get back in the car and dial up Hotels Tonight and the Hermitage comes up for under $200. My lucky day! This is truly a world class hotel with beautiful features, amazing friendly yet professional service from all involved, great restaurant and bar, perfect location - minutes to walk to all the action, yet incredibly quiet and tranquil, phenomenal glass and marble enclosed shower ( I hate shower curtains), I could go on and on. Suffice it to say the lesson learned is that by being so tunnel visioned on the points thing, we often miss out on amazing opportunities for boutique and luxury experiences - often for about the same rate! Kudos to the Hermitage - what luxurious hospitality looks like!

  • I wish there was higher than a 5!!

This place is bar none an amazing hotel! The service was outstanding. Everyone was ready to do everything in their power to make your stay a pleasure and it was!!!

The rooms are beautiful. We also enjoy the Capitol grill Oak room one of our late nights.

There is no question where I will stay when I come back to Nashville!

  • Elegance in Nashville

by trojans on 2018-07-16 12:14 am

My husband retired after 50 years of being in business and as soon as we could, we headed north to Nashville
for the 4th for a few days allowing the dust to settle back home.
I wanted to treat him to a nice place to stay and as the honky tonks on Broadway are fun, staying slightly out from all of that, yet still in walking distance, was a plus.

The hotel was built in 1910 and its lobby harkens to a bygone era---opulence and elegance yet the staff could not have been more gracious, inviting and kind.

Ours was a corner room on the 6th floor with a marvelous view of Tennessee's war memorial promenade and state capital.
When we pulled up, the valet immediately assisted us with unloading the car and helping us make our way in.
The lobby is up a flight of stairs so the luggage was brought up by an elevator there on the ground floor by the front door.
Our room was not yet ready so we opted to set off exploring on foot as the front desk took our cell phone and promised to call us when the room was ready. I think they called up within 30 minutes.

As I said before the staff was great. Doormen and woman would always open the door welcoming us back or wishing us well on the day's journey.
One day we were caught in a rain shower and were soaked by the time we made it back to the hotel but they were ready at the door offering guests dry towels and bottles of water as Nashville was experiencing a heatwave during our visit.

Our room was a good 10 degrees warmer than the temperature out in the hallway so I made mention of this to the front desk noting that I had the thermostat turned down to 65.
They immediately sent a crew in to check the AC.
They cleaned the coils which did improve the temp slightly but explained that the building being a 110 years old the insulation was not what it should be and that they were in the process of updating all rooms with new units, unfortunately, our room had not yet been updated. We completely understood and the overhead ceiling fan did help keep things comfortable and had there not been a heat index of 108 outside...we might not have ever mentioned it.

I had dealt with the hotel's concierge via e-mail before our arrival as I was lining up a trip out to visit the home of Andrew Jackson, the original Nashville Hermitage and they were more then helpful with letting me know how best to visit without us having to use our own car and drive during the holiday as I wasn't certain as to what roads would be closed, etc.

The bathroom was marble, updated, spacious and very airy.
A separate enclosed toilet, a free standing shower, a jetted garden tub and a double sink. The mirror is a smart mirror in that a television is in the mirror if you wanted to watch the news, etc while showering etc.

The location is within easy walking distance to places to eat if you chose to want something other than what the dining room at the hotel had to offer.
We opted to walk each morning to Pucket's grocery each morning for breakfast and even lunch.

We felt completely safe but there is a small park on a corner lot just south of the hotel that is a gathering spot for many of the city's homeless...but as I say, we never felt unsafe even as we'd walk back around 10 from a concert at the Ryman.

The Hermitage Hotel is a piece of American history.
It is rich in its own history but tips her hat to to a different time and place.
    Absolutley lovely.

  • Amazing.

There are not enough good things I can say about this hotel. It is simply beautiful. The staff are wonderful and kind and very welcoming. The room was more than I could of ever imagined. So many pillows to choose from, stocked mini bar, cozy robes, and breakfast delivered to your door. We used the valet service which was so convenient for us as we attended a concert at the Bridgestone Arena and were in walking distance. I just cannot brag on this hotel enough!!
