  • Huge Hotel but still managed to be Quaint

    by Capricorn9831 on 2017-10-17 10:40 am

Cute spot, far and away the nicest looking in this tiny New England town. Spans over a few blocks, very striking building but not imposing.
Plenty of free parking in the rear.
Lots of surprise old-world elements...original tube-mail system, etc.
I thoroughly enjoyed how many relaxing little nooks there were. A cute lounge area right in front to people watch on the street or to sit with a drink (pictured). A nice and sunny (floor to ceiling windows) bar that was very lively and happening. A classic, intimate looking old English style pub for more privacy and a cute outdoor patio/terrace area which looked perfect for lunch.
Our room was super spacious as well, huge king bed with tons of space to spread out...a desk area, seating area, and a large bathroom. Fixtures not totally modernized or updated but it was clean and did the trick.
My last minute rate of $219 seemed steep, but maybe a weekend, summertime rate is the peak season. I also think there was a wedding going on.

  • Way too expensive!

    by Mary R on 2017-10-11 09:24 pm

In town for a conference at UMass and all the hotels were booked so we had to pay $300 a night! My room was considered a junior suite, but it is just a regular room. Hotel is old and charming but I could have gotten a much nicer room at a chain hotel for half the price. Carpet in room was old and dirty so I wore socks in my room which ended up black. Bathroom floor was not very clean but with a wet tissue and some elbow grease I cleaned it. When entering my room, I back in to a dark room and fell down two stairs! No warning that there were stairs in my room and no lights were left on! Room had neat balcony with table and chair. Two sitting chairs in room had cushions that were old, dirty and worn - yuck! Bathroom was updated and while counter is very small, shower was nice with good water pressure. Free continental breakfast was all carbs and not so fresh fruit. To get anything decent you have to order off the menu and pay for your meal. For this money I would expect a clean carpet, chairs I would sit on and a decent breakfast.

  • Very clean, but small rooms are overpriced.

The good news is that the rooms are quite clean and nicely decorated. The bad news, not only is the room tiny, the bed is literally the smallest bed we've ever had in a decent hotel. The room was, however, quiet. The lobby is nothing to write home about and I find their "no alcohol in the room" policy completely bizarre. I'm not sure what else is in the area, but it seems quite expensive for what it is.

  • Great Hotel

We reserved a block of rooms for our wedding at Hotel Northampton this past August. My husband and I stayed there as well. We worked with Hilary who was very helpful in guiding us in how many rooms we would need and able to make changes as they filled up. Hilary is also the sales person with the Fairfield Inn and Suites and was able to book another block with them. It was nice to be able to include two options for hotels (the Fairfield being more family friendly and cost conscience one). Hotel Northampton is stunning and historic and in a prime location. The bridal suite was large and included an outside and inside balcony, and a sun porch. We held a farewell brunch the next morning which was filled with delicious food. The eggs were seriously the best. We heard nothing but good things from our guests about their experience with the hotel overall. I highly recommend staying here in general as well as hosting a large group.

  • A beautiful historic hotel, go to their tavern

    by belo1601 on 2017-10-09 04:03 am

Looked so forward to our stay here, front desk receptionists unaware that this property was a Historic hotel ! Staff also had no idea about local restaurants. Promised us a large room with a single Queen bed; although we showed them the Trip Advisor price, it was not honored when we checked out. Disappointed that the expensive rate was in a small room, nor a Queen size bed; and miscommunication about our only request "large room with one Queen size bed". Check out staff rolled his eyes when we mentioned we would review the hotel. Breakfast was complimentary with excellent staff, cannot say the same for breakfast. Tavern closes at 10 PM ! Would come back for the place itself
