We have stayed at the Inn in times past and have been so pleased with the inn and the restaurant, Krazy Kats. I have never written a bad review of any property but I am very disturbed at my recent experience. I made three phone calls, sent an e-mail and contacted the restaurant trying to make a reservation. It is not possible to make a reservation online, it must be done with a phone call. No one ever called be back to at least say there was not availability. I am very disappointed in this treatment as we have certainly enjoyed our previous visits.
This has become one of our favorite places to stay. It is a comfortable, interesting, charming place close to Winterthur Museum, Nemours, Longwood Gardens and the Brandywine Museum. We often visit one attraction, stay overnight, and then visit another. The Inn has a great Spa, and I had an outstanding massage on a recent visit. The two-story "suites" are really interesting and offer "living room" space to relax, read or watch TV. Always spotless, and the staff is courteous and helpful.
This is a charming inn. Large rooms, large bathrooms. I loved the coffee maker, robes, heated towel rack. Was very comfortable. Rooms are all different and unique. It was such a nice relaxing stay. The restaurant is convenient and good.
Had been loving this place for 10 years. This past year? Terrible! Domestic abuse violence in room next door, took several calls before front desk called police. Could not get seated for breakfast at the hotel, despite being registered guests. Delayed dinner reservation by half an hour--without apology from the smug host. DON'T STAY HERE.
I would have given this five stars but the restaurant on site desperately needs to get its act together in terms of service and turnaround for food. Did breakfast and it seemed as if the staff was at odds with the chef who would not deviate from his menu (warning to anyone with allergies).
We had a cottage with two bedrooms and it was very comfortable and well appointed. Bathrooms (there were two) were well appointed and among the best I have seen anywhere (think spa-like, spacious, whirlpool, separate shower stall, towel warmer).
Hotel is set up in a village formerly used by employees of the DuPont gunpowder factory, which itself is now a museum. The main building (which only houses the front desk and a great room with large stone fireplace) is very cozy, with board games and honor system self service bar, and grand piano, is a treat.
Great location for visit to Brandywine Valley
