  • As good as visiting Grandma's!

    by Stevar00 on 2017-10-15 07:16 am

This is an excellent hotel. I stayed here while traveling on business in the Cambridge area. First, this is a boutique hotel and full of charm and character. Location-wise it is across the street from MIT and provides easy access to downtown Cambridge.

Upon arrival I was welcomed by friendly staff who made sure I had everything I needed and provided excellent directions regarding wifi, where to eat, etc.

I had an upper floor room--very nice an very quiet. On my floor there is a terrace/room where I think they had a wine-tasting event. I arrived too late to participate but even so the room was a nice lounge area with plenty of comfortable seats.

The room: if my grandmother were to open a B&B and offer up her room to me to use this is what it would have been like. It was warm, inviting and very comfortable, but still with all the pluses one finds staying in a genuine hotel (very clean bathroom, lots of amenities, etc.). There were the quilts on the large bed, super soft and comfy pillows, and antique furniture to add to the over all charm.

The bed was amazing! Perfectly comfortable.

The bathroom was roomy, clean and everything you'd expect it to be. The hotel is nice and quiet as well.

Breakfast is included and this place does breakfast well. It starts a little later than most hotels (at 7am vs. the usual 6:30am) but they feed you well with an excellent assortment of cold and hot items, and amazing coffee as well. For sure--leave room in your schedule and belly for the breakfast.

If given the opportunity to visit the area again I would certainly visit again. I really recommend this place!

  • Small and well done

Nice small hotel. Excellent service and nicely furnished sleeping room. HVAC and wireless all good. Eclectic decor. Near T stop. Full breakfast with room that is a cut above the norm. Pleasant lobby and rooftop sitting room

  • Gorgeous hotel, mistep during the check in

This could have been a five-star review. The hotel is set in an old firehouse in the heart of Cambridge. It is very convenient to MIT and in the heart of the hotspot. The room was spacious with high quality construction. I could not hear a peep from outside my door. That was fabulous. They put little gift bag with complementary nuts, cookies, and bottled water in the room. You can order more bottled water if you need it. The bathroom was very big with great toiletries. Finally, the breakfast was one of the best hotel buffets I have had in a long time with a variety of locally baked breads, bagels, fruits, salad, potatoes, olives, cheese, meats, eggs, muesli, yogurt.

So what went wrong. When I went to check in, they said I had an expired card in the system - and the manager kept on wagging her finger at me as if I had done something wrong. Easy enough to deal with but she felt like she needed to publicly chastise me multiple times. This was slightly amusing since as this was business travel I did not make the reservations. However, when I reported this to our travel assistant she noted that it went through pre-paid without issue; they had mistyped the number. So, at the end of the day my take on the hotel is that it is nice, but if something goes wrong, don't expect treatment that matches the environs.

  • If you're looking for place to stay near MIT...

by ByMMMS on 2017-10-08 11:48 am not miss Kendall Hotel. Based practically on MIT campus, where within a short walk you can reach MIT facilities. Just 2 minutes walk down the block is a T station to help you get around Boston.

What I really appreciated was good full American breakfast, apples throughout the day at reception and a nice treat of cookies in the afternoon.

It is a smaller hotel, so you would not find a gym or pool, but for the workout you can use a nearby complimentary gym centre or even better, stretch your legs jogging by the Charles river.

The interior, lobby and the rooms offer you a very cosy feel, with some historic decoration and the rooms are very clean.

Would recommend the hotel both for business and family travelers!

  • Loved my stay at the Kendall

Great location, nice comfortable homey room, but what really excelled was the staff. The cleaning staff, breakfast attendees and desk clerk were all so accommodating. We asked for a couple glasses of milk at the end of a long day and they even offered to bring it to the room. Lol - we must have looked tired! I would stay at & recommend the Kendall to everyone.
