  • 24-hour pool!

    by Summer O on 2018-03-05 11:06 am

We enjoyed the Sunday night special that included dinner at The Sisters restaurant. We were on a quick Christmas visit to see Rudolph at The Barter. It was perfect to eat dinner, walk over to the play, and walk back over to stay at The Martha. My daughter (4 years old) and my husband were incredibly thrilled to find the pool open 24 hours. They visited that night and the next morning after breakfast! I hope to enjoy the spa on our next visit, but this will truly stand out as a great one. I loved dressing our daughter up and making a big deal of our stay in such a special place. She still talks about the dinner where she had to "use her manners."

  • Spa

I paid a $161 for an 80 minute massage. Absolutely would not go back. I travel all over our great country and abroad and have had many great massages. This lacked on many levels, especially at this price. After handing me my receipt I was told the tip was included. After I signed, I asked how much they included, I was appalled they only gave the young lady $14, not even 10%. It was not the best massage, but, definitely not the worst. I would have thought they would have given at least 15%, I give 20, 30+ when it's excellent. Like I said at $161, definitely not worth the trip back. Lots of independent shops in the lovely town of Abingdon that were recommended when I asked around later that day! Next visit!!!

  • Overall - very good!

by Beckycon on 2018-03-03 01:42 pm

My husband & I stayed here for our anniversary. We coupled the stay with a trip to Barter & it was wonderful to be right across the street. The hotel was gorgeous. Our room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was great and it was very quiet throughout our stay. It was also spotlessly clean, which I loved. We only had one meal there - the complimentary breakfast and it was very tasty. My only negative comment would be there was no valet service at all. It was our first stay and the young lady at the front desk gave us no information. In fact, I had to call back to find out the hours of breakfast & the check-out time. I would expect better from a hotel of this caliber. We should have been told basic information as well as locations of dining, spa, pool, etc. Also, we had to walk to Rain to have cocktails after Barter. It would be great if the inn bar stayed open a bit later. However, I know these things now and the Inn was so lovely that I would not hesitate to stay again.

  • Great expectations - poor reality

After seeing the beautiful pictures and glowing reviews, we were really excited to stay here. We booked two nights, and arrived a little after 3 for check-in. No valet to be seen, and no sign to indicate if he would be back. So we parked and checked in. The staff was very pleasant, but something needs to be done about housekeeping. When we got to our room, the first thing we noticed was the peeling wallpaper and the small pedestal sink without much space for us to place our toiletries. Okay, we could live with that. Over the next two days I noticed the missing handle on the nightstand, the thick layer of dust behind the ice bucket, and the layer of dust under the tissue box next to the small sink. Next to the sink was the door to the toilet and shower with a full length mirror which was also very dirty. On our second day there after housekeeping had been in, the bed was remade, and that was about it. Our drinking glasses were left where we left them, and hadn't been washed or replaced. The shower mat had been taken away and not replaced. One of the bathrobes was missing the belt. In addition to the lack of cleanliness and detail, there was no written info on any of the hotel's amenities or local attractions. We did enjoy our breakfast, and the service and staff in the restaurant and the bar, but if we ever return to Abingdon, we will be staying elsewhere.

  • Disappointing environment

    by G4717VFdavidc on 2018-02-22 10:48 am

We stayed at the MWI, attracted by TA reviews. And while we agree that it has its charms, there were also some rather shocking things about the hotel that we found more than disappointing. For one thing, our room had large portraits of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, which we found offensive and disturbing. We were equally upset by the atmosphere in the restaurant. This is an expensive restaurant and we fully expected it to offer a welcoming, relaxing ambience. Instead, we were haunted throughout the meal by extremely loud shouting from the bar, which is abutts the restaurant. When we asked about this, our wait person said, "Oh, that's just our regulars." While the food and service was good, the overall atmosphere was more like being in a biker bar than a sophisticated restaurant. Needless to say, we won't return.
