  • Beautiful hote at a nice location albeit inconsistent service

    I normally check Autograph and Ritz deals when traveling for work - and this occasion was no exception. The hotel was beautiful and centrally located for my needs. The bellmen and front desk staff were also particularly exceptional in meeting my needs. There were only a few cons I wanted to take note as they were quite important as a business traveler. Firstly, when using the the "Do not service/Do not disturb" sign for my room, I expect just this...not to be disturbed. (I must note that I was in the concierge level, where I EXPECT better than normal service.) I stayed for 3 nights. I normally put the sign out as I have unusual hours where I speak to overseas clients quite early and do not want calls to be interrupted. On day 2, I woke up quite early and had many meetings. Before lunch, the maid knocked on my door (mind you the sign was on the door) and asked if she could service the room as I was her last room of the day. I promptly told her to come back in an hour. After 90 minutes (sign still on the door), she knocked on the door again and I answered in my robe and she asked to come in. I said it was a bad time (visibly upset) and she proceeded to ask me if I wanted towels or toiletries. I said "no." She once again explained I was her last room. I said to her AGAIN, I did not want to be serviced as I had not gotten dressed. I have been relatively loyal to Marriott this year. I am questioning this after this incident. The next day (sign on the door) she knocked on it AGAIN. I just ignored her this time. My second complaint is with the club. The business services there were subpar. While the technology was just OK for printing purposes, there was never ANY paper in the printer, nor was there ever an attendant to help me with my needs. Why bother having these there if they are not fully functional. This is a very small detail that would have made the world of a difference. Otherwise, my room was spacious, clean and comfortable.

  • Very nice but lacking some important features

    The hotel is attractive and the staff is generally very nice (with a couple truly exceptional individuals). My room was MINISCULE, although the bathroom was a decent size and very nice. The restaurant is pretty good for a hotel restaurant and has a diverse and interesting menu.

    The rooms do not have a mini bar or even bottled water. That was REALLY annoying and a bad surprise. The HVAC units work well, but they are huge and outdated and take up space in tiny rooms. The rooms are FREEZING if you don't use the heat. They are definitely not well insulated from temperature or sound bleed.

    Most concerning was the fact that the elevators do not have any type of security whatsoever. No key is required to move floor to floor and the hotel is extremely busy, so it was be very easy for anyone to come in or out. On the first night of my stay I had someone trying to get into my room for 5 minutes at 11 pm. I then heard them doing the same in the neighboring rooms. I also heard staff at 6 am with loud walkie talkies in the hallway. Standing and chattering away just outside my room. It was very disruptive. Lastly, I had to leave quite early in the morning and there was no doorman available to be of assistance. It's not a big problem for me, but it was a surprise.

    Overall the hotel was nice and some of the staff were extremely helpful and excellent. Others...less so. I will probably be back for business purposes, but generally I do not stay in properties which do not have general security features (such as key required elevators). Considering how busy the hotel is with meetings, and large groups, I would hope they would be adding this feature for the safety of their guests.

  • Beautiful Short Visit

    My husband and I arrived in the evening during the week. The hotel was hosting an event. The lobby was elegantly decorated for the holidays. Even with all the people around, it felt spacious and inviting. Our room was clean and comfortable bedding. Marriott is known for their beds and this was no exception. We had excellent service in the restaurant but we also were able to enjoy the Concierge suite for breakfast and afternoon snacks. They allow you to pour your own adult beverages and fill out a ticket. The place was filled with a variety of people that made people watching a lot of fun. I recommend this hotel as it is very close to many restaurants and attractions. We took cabs because my husband cannot walk long distances and it was cold, but certainly would be easy for most.

  • Nice Historic Hotel right in DC

    This hotel is in a great location. It was cold so we took an Uber to restaurants and different places but walking is manageable. We spent one night here for work. Due to my platinum status we were upgraded to a suite which was very nice. The suite was large. We did go to the concierge lounge and found that it was probably one of the least appealing ones we have ever been to. Valet parking was good but we also parked one of our cars at the parking garage at the corner and it was about $20 cheaper. The hotel has a lot of history in it which makes it an interesting place to stay.

  • Nice, but won't stay again

    The hotel is very nice. The staff is absolutely wonderful. But still I would probably not go back. I typically stay at the Holiday Inn brand, and always find a consistent and pleasant experience. One thing I can always find at Holiday Inn is a coffee maker in my room. The Mayflower does not have such option. Coffee is not available until 6:30 each morning, either through room service, or free if you want to dress and go down to the restaurant. In other words, not very convenient or cost-effective if you choose the room service option.

    I will say that the room was very comfortable. The mattress and linens put me right to sleep. In many hotels the light shining under the door can keep you up half the night with the brightness. Even with multiple windows my room got very dark. I'm not sure if this was the case with every room, but I loved having the door offset from the rest of the room. That eliminated the bright hallway light shining underneath the door.

    The gym was nice and had many options. Again very comfortable to use. And for a nice extra, there were small bottles of water and fruit available. Filtered water is also available to refill bottles, and towels are available. And one cool option was they had a Peloton stationary bicycle. I had been wanting to try one out and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want to try it out, I would suggest setting up a Peloton account online before you get to the gym. I believe there is a 30-day free period to try the workout videos. Then you won't have to fumble with that when you're trying to work out.

    The restaurant/bar - it was rockin' at night to be sure. Not my thing, but if you like that it appeared to be a good place to hang out. I did still enjoy a late night snack after arrival, with some drinks. I felt the prices were reasonable for a hotel. But then we went to breakfast there the next morning. I usually like to do the buffet option. For $26 it was way too expensive. Good, with many options, but still too expensive.

    The location was great for us on this particular trip as we were hanging around the White House area. The group I was going with had a block of rooms which is why I chose to stay at this hotel. However, the prices compared to other hotels was quite a bit more, and I'm not sure that I received any additional amenities to cover the cost difference.
