  • Beautiful dinner evening on the front porch.

    by Fred P on 2018-06-18 02:09 pm

The owner of Once Upon A Mountain recommend dinner on the front porch. So glad my wife and I took her up on her suggestion. Excellent service. The food was delicious. We will definitely stop there when we are in the area.

Thank you for taking time to write such a nice review. I love the porch, to the east is the Shenandoah National Park and to the west is the George Washington Forest. Luray Caverns is just out of view to the left between us and the George Washington National Forest. I often think how lucky we are to have two parks that will be here for future generations to enjoy.

I hope to see you again soon.

  • Stayed in the cottages - wonderful time.

    by brianj0sephc on 2018-06-15 07:48 am

Was in town for a friend's wedding - stayed in one of the very cute cottages. Ours was called South River - nice queen bed, big tub and shower, perfect for a couple of nights. Direct access to the pool - nice size, took a quick dip.
Had many activities available to use freely- ping pong, corn hole, croquet, frisbee etc.
There were shaded hammocks and a fire pit.
The main hotel was also very nice (had friends staying there, so saw the rooms - nice) They also have an outdoor pool.

Had rehearsal dinner at the restaurant (Circa 33) everything was great. A couple of drinks downstairs at the "Speakeasy"

Played golf at a nearby (10 minutes) course, Caverns CC - which was VERY affordable - in the morning while my wife and the other bridesmaids got ready.

Overall was very nice, clean and friendly staff - if it wasn't such a far drive for us, we would definitely go here again. Maybe one day.

  • Great Family Vacation Stay

    by GaryjW2014 on 2018-06-11 10:20 am

Stayed at Mimslyn Inn for 3 days / 2 nights and rented The Manor House which sleeps 16 people. We took over the 6 bedrooms as a family 4 brothers & Sisters and our kids. House is large with living rooms, library, big dining room (10 seats) and large kitchen with kitchen table that sat another 10. All inside home was in good working order and beautiful decorated. Beds were fairly new and comfortable. Only criticism is that the floors throughout the house were not very clean and all kids had dirty feet or dirty socks after the first few hours of inside play. Bought to attention of management and they did re-clean floors with swifter to ameliorate the situation. Definitely am coming back to the Mimslyn Inn.

Thank you for writing such a nice review. The Manor House was built in 1932 by the original owners of the Mimslyn Inn. We were able to purchase and update the house a couple of years ago. I apologize for the dusty floors. The white glove or "sock" test will be given before we check in future guests. The house is perfect for large families.

I hope you visit us again, soon.

  • An Oasis in Luray Virginia

by heacockb on 2018-06-02 03:30 pm

The Mimslyn is a wonderful, relaxing oasis right around the corner from the fabulous Luray Caverns. The staff is extremely friendly and eager to do whatever is necessary to make you stay enjoyable. Rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. We ate ate both restaurants and the food and service were excellent.

Thank you for taking time to write such a nice review. Luray Caverns is a great family attraction to have close by. I am always amazed that we have the Caverns on one side of the hotel and the Shenandoah National Park on the other. The Mimslyn just turned 87 years old and the Park and the Caverns have been our neighbors the whole time. In fact it's the reason the original owners decided to build the Mimslyn Inn.
I hope to see you soon.

  • Alright

    by Susan S on 2018-05-31 05:20 pm

My husband is trekking for two months on the Appalachian Trail and I met him at the Mimslyn to celebrate our anniversary and bring supplies. I booked the Hawksbill Cabin after reading reviews and knew that the personal hot tub with this cabin would be great after all of the hiking. The cabin was fantastic! We loved the location and it had enough room and the bed and shower were really good. I only gave 3 stars because the water to our cabin was shut off by maintenance for over an hour ( front desk said maintenance did not know someone was staying there. Really?? Is it that hard to check?) And we did have ants and even though the shower had dispensers for soap and shampoo - there was no soap. Also, as someone with long hair, conditioner is always appreciated but was not supplied here. My biggest complaint though was the young front desk gentleman who really acted as if he did not give a d### about any of this. I had read other reviews that stated "cabin lodgers" were treated like second class and it truly felt that way. For the rates anyone pays at this place service should be much better.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit. I was very disappointed to read your review. I to am a hiker and enjoy reaching out to AT hikers that stay with us. I have given many rides to those refueling. I can't officially list our services as the Park requires permits for shuttle service to the park. Luray is a great spot to take a break with a great outdoor supply store and of course Walmart.
I did speak with the Maintenance employee and he is truly sorry for his response. The town had a water line break and that did cause our water to be out. He did not see any cars in the parking lot and really felt our guests were out enjoying the day. The ants are inexcusable as well as the soap. Both of those items should have been fixed immediately. I will use your review to retrain the guest service agent on proper customer service. I am sorry I did not get a chance to meet you and your husband. I love to talk about the trail experience. We are so lucky to the the Shenandoah National Park in our back yard. I hope you decide to give us another chance to show you what a difference your comments have made. We now have back up bar soap and conditioner in the cabins.
