I am so happy you joined us for 'Date Night" . Circa'31 is our formal dining room that we love to share with our guests. The Chef creates a new menu every Friday with fresh ingredients. We try and use local so the menu can change from week to week. I don't think you will fine anything that compares in both price and quality. Please lets us know what we can do better.

Hope to see you again and again!

We loved staying at the Mimslyn when we came to Luray to hike. Our room was comfortable, breakfast in the gorgeous dining room was excellent, and the location couldn't be beat. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful, comfortable, clean & quiet. Everything I was looking for in a hotel. Amazing for the price. Right outside our room door was a beautiful solarium - wonderful place to sit & read. The staff were pleasant, helpful & friendly.

  • Going home.

Having lived in Luray for many years, we decided to spend our anniversary as tourists with the Mimslynn as our weekend destination. We SO enjoyed ourselves! The staff at the hotel is very accomodating and the detail to attention shows in ever aspect from decor to cleanliness to food service. The Sunday seafood brunch is fabulous! We also had a nice surprise when we arrived for dinner Saturday and the lobby was full of party goers dressed in civil war period costumes. Many thanks to Jim Simms and his incredible staff for a memorable time!

  • Great NYE Experience

by WVSails on 2018-01-01 01:54 pm

Our stay at The Mimslyn Inn was for their New Year's package. The NYE package included standard party items: room for two, dinner, dancing to a band, open bar, and brunch on New Year's day. What set the Mimslyn apart from most NYE parties is the inclusion of horse drawn carriage rides in the evening, lighting of a yule log for mulled wine, and professionally done fireworks at midnight.

Although our room was fairly small, we knew that in advance, as having booked late we our choice was a smaller room or a suite. The room still had everything we needed, with a desk, wing chair, armoire with TV, bed large enough for two average sized people, as well as enough room to pull the luggage rack from the closet to make it easy for one night of suitcase living. The bathroom was spacious, clean, and current. For NYE, having a room in the front of the inn is a plus as you can watch the fireworks from your room.

The package included open bar in the basement level Speakeasy from 6p-8p and at the lobby bar until midnight. The Speakeasy is a cool looking space (I like basement bars) decorated with photos of prohibition era gangsters and movie stars. Since this was our first stay at The Mimslyn, we wanted to checkout all areas of the hotel. We went to the Speakeasy around 7pm for pre-dinner drinks. The place was packed with guests watching football prior to going to dinner, and two or three couples who were dining there. The only tables available were a table for eight and a booth with dirty items sitting on the table. No staff greeted us upon entry. Given our table options, we sat at the dirty table waiting for staff to clear it. One waitress was bustling - clearing, setting tables, and taking drinks to guests. Initially, no other staff (except the busy bartender) were visible, although after sitting down, three staff appear and stood against a wall just outside the beverage station. Given that the place was busy, I have no issue that they did not approach us until called. When I waved to get attention, a woman came over. I asked how service worked down there (since a waitress was bringing drinks to some while others were going to the bar). She informed us that we should get our own drinks and hors d'ouevres. I asked if she would have someone clear the table. Although she did grab a few things and have someone clean the table, she responded, "they are seating upstairs at seven" in a very curt manner (particularly since we had not asked anything). Her attitude throughout our exchange is the one real negative I experienced with the Mimslyn. Her body language, tone, and complete lack of warmth said, "go away and take everyone else in here with you." A smile may have cracked her entire body. A couple of the other workers appeared almost as dour. The experience left me with a negative impression. However, the bartender was efficient, as friendly as a busy bar allows, and the cocktails the best that we had our entire stay.

Dinner was solid. Our dishes were properly cooked, with cold items, cold and hot items, hot. Food looked nice on the plate and tasted good too. I have rather high expectations for black tie dinners and they were met. Desserts were good too. I appreciated the flavored syrups at the coffee station. The friendliness of hostess Harleigh and Mary our server in Circa 31 was a total contrast to our experience in Speakeasy.

The band and dancing was setup in the lobby. With the furniture and rugs removed, the room is an effective dance floor. It was a bit chilly whenever people would go outside, but that couldn't be helped on a night of 10 degrees.

The only other complaint regarding the overall experience is that one of lobby bartenders did not seem to know even common drinks well and served some odd combinations (in contrast, the other lobby bartender was absolutely bubbly and would ask if he was not sure what should be in a drink).

We walked the grounds a bit in the snow, but I am sure they are more lovely when the weather is a bit warmer. While the negative behavior of the Speakeasy employee is the only one on that level, I find a general lack of smiling and hotel/customer service level friendliness among about 1/3 of hotel staff unusual. That may have been due to the volume of people. Overall, I would stay at the Mimslyn again whether for NYE or on a non-event date to see how it is on a regular night.
