Dining

Guests won’t have to travel far to sample some of Spokane’s favorite local dining gems. Whether craving a light gourmet lunch, decadent dinner, unique cocktail, or craft beer, three restaurants with bar and lounge are located right in the Montvale Hotel.

Gilded Unicorn
The Gilded Unicorn lives in the old Catacombs underneath the Montvale Hotel, and the craft cocktail bar with re-imagined American eats is going for a particular look: gaudy. The name reflects the blend of classic and modern without taking itself too seriously, as apparent in its use of faux gold – lots of faux gold.

The atmosphere is equal parts old-timey and whimsical – with a side of downright goofiness. In a word, it’s “ridiculous,” said Adam Hegsted, who dreamed up the concept and owns the restaurant. “It’s going to be so funny and tacky,” he said. “It’s going to be fantastic.”

The restaurant showcases local, seasonal food and drinks from the Northwest and beyond, coerced into new fashioned flavors that hit the soul. The Gilded Unicorn features craft foods and drinks, specializing in modern comfort foods, unique cocktails, and the classics.

Hours of Operation
Sunday to Thursday, 3:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Friday & Saturday, 3:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m.

Scratch & Rain Lounge

The contemporary American fare at Scratch perfectly marries the highest quality seasonal ingredients with the nuance of complementing and contrasting flavors and textures. Start a meal with a bowl of homemade crab chowder or make it a full meal with the hot pot of seasoned seafood and andouille sausage in a spicy tomato broth. Caesar salads are tossed fresh right at the table.

Located on the main floor in the historic Montvale Hotel, the warm brick of the walls is classically complemented with crisp white linens and black décor. A large open kitchen brings the wafting aromas of delectable ingredients being made into culinary delights. The restaurant also caters, has a separate banquet room seating up to 50, and sponsors regular special events.

Next door to Scratch is Rain Lounge, a nightlife hub with revolving music events, hip atmosphere, and a well-stocked selection of evening libations. A full-service bar with a generous selection of liquor, 32 signature martinis, and an impressive array of California, Washington, and imported wines by the bottle and glass, Rain Lounge offers a happy hour food and drink menu and ordering off Scratch’s menu, even late-night.
