  • What a hotel!

    by Brian M on 2018-06-21 01:17 pm

I had always wanted to stay there...a place where every member of the Hall of Fame had been. So glorious and majestic. yes, its 'older' but so well maintained, inside and out. Very courteous staff. The breakfast (I think its included in with every room) is more of a 'Sunday Brunch' with a huge array of offerings. And the food was excellent. My only complaint was when we stopped in The Hawkeye Grill (in the hotel) to eat something light late in the afternoon. We were seated at a hightop in the bar, which was fine but then we sat there for at least 15 minutes before we were waited on while those seated in the restaurant were being attended to quickly. I ordered a cup of coffee with my sandwich...10-15 minutes goes by before the coffee shows up. The waiter said 'Sorry for the wait but we were brewing a fresh pot'. I didn't buy that for a minute and I feel like he forgot..if it was true then why not come over and tell me that to begin with? Other than that...highly recommended.

I recently attended a business event at this hotel, and I was quite impressed. This is a very classy hotel. Everything about this place is top notch. The view of the lake is magnificent. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here for 6 nights while my son was at the Dreams Park for baseball. We stayed ina 2 bedroom suite. It is just beautiful!! Staff is amazing! Food is excellent! Short 5 minute walk into town. Would love to come visit again!

  • What a delight! Stay here, for sure

We can't wait to come back to Otesaga. The staff--of which there are tons, to dote on you at every turn--is incredibly attentive, from the bell staff to the check in team to the restaurant staff--everyone. The hotel itself is truly lovely, with well appointed rooms that are immaculate and incredibly large and comfortable. Halls are huge, windows are wide with wonderful views (we had a stellar view of the lake even out of a side window), foliage is incredible in the summer, and nothing is even the tiniest bit shabby at all. The toiletries are a treat, the towels are soft, the beds are the perfect softness, the pillows are plentiful. We ate an impromptu dinner at the Hawkeye Grill, which sounded like it could be mediocre. Well, the food is mostly locally sourced, farm fresh, and totally inventive--it was positively delicious. There were plenty of options for my 13yo son, and we are all vegetarians and there were tons of options for us as well. The waitstaff was attentive and helpful. We all had the most delicious drinks--a virgin one for our son--and had the most fantastic evening on the terrace overlooking the incredibly gorgeous Lake Otsego. The bocce ball court and beanbags for the kids right below us were a fabulous touch, and guests walking along the waters' edge made it even better. As the sun set it was just the best way to spend the evening. In the morning, we slept in, were treated to a huge breakfast buffet included in the cost of the room (everything you could possibly imagine from omlettes made to order to meats to waffles to fruit to grits to yogurt and pastries) again on the terrace of the Glimmerglass restaurant, with the most attentive staff (and amazing coffee). We then went for a swim in the beautiful pool before regular check out time at noon. We are sorry we were only staying one night, but it was a night to remember and we are thrilled that we'll have a chance and a reason to come back soon!

  • Grand old dame.

    by william z on 2018-06-10 12:23 am

The first impression of the hotel is that they must have filmed The Shining here. Wide main hallways, very large dining room, vintage suites, etc. The hotel offers comfortable accommodations with one caveat: If there is a function on the veranda or in the ballroom and you unfortunate to have rooms near that area you are not going to find it very peaceful. This happened to us but the hotel was gracious enough to move us to a higher floor on the other side of the hotel which was very comfortable and serene.

The views of the lake are truly beautiful, and there several bars and dining venues. If you don't want to dine at the hotel there ares several nice restaurants in the downtown area, a short 5-10 minute walk. The staff was very helpful and polite while we were there and we would consider coming back again if we are anywhere near this area.
