  • VERY Impressed.

    Since I was a little girl growing up on Long Island I've wanted to stay this hotel but knew the cost of ONE night was more than I could afford...........until now - fifty years later. I've also watched MANY of Anthony's Hotel Impossible shows which has sort of ruined it for me for the hotels I CAN regularly frequent when I travel. Considering the age of the Plaza - I was emotionally impressed and not let down. We had a beautiful room (NOT Suite) - plenty of room - CLEAN and well maintained. The BED I wish I could have taken home with us - never slept so well - until work traffic started up LOL. The staff were AWESOME!! Some could say - that is to be expected at a HIGH END hotel but not always. I never assume anything. The Palm Court and Champagne bar were EXCELLENT - I was not overly impressed the by the "food court" downstairs but it's not what I went for. Thank you Plaza staff for a true "dream come true" - it was worth it!!!!

  • The Plaza has lost its Grandeur. Don't waste your money.

    We were very disappointed with our stay. Over-priced and under-delivered. We used to take our children there around Christmas and thought this trip would bring back many fond memories. It did not. The hotel looks nothing like it did before. The lobby is not welcoming at all. Very confusing to navigate and it feels temporary. The hotel rooms are on the back side of the hotel so no view whatsoever, unless you like watching other people work at their desk. Plus, they have an odd spotlight over the bed for reading purposes but is quite blinding and difficult to turn-off. One of the staff agreed with our assessment and admitted the present ownership did not put money into the property; he said to 'give us a year' with the new ownership and the hotel should return to its prior glory. I hope so!

    4 stars. It is a wonderful hotel. A must for everyone to stay at least once. We stayed for two nights at the Plaza and then went to another hotel for the remaining two nights. Let me just say we were so spoiled by the Plaza experience nothing could hold a candle to it. We wished we had booked for the entire stay.

  • one bad experience after another

    we stayed there for 5 nights at a rate of $2,000 US.
    the building is very nice the rooms were also well appointed and luxuries.
    the attitude of the staff was very unprofessional and everything was too difficult.
    the straw that broke the camels back was when they demanded that we had to move out of our suite because they had it reserved for another guest. we had family we were catching up and hadn't seen for 40 years, we wanted to order a selection of food, they said we have a wedding and they are very busy, the best they could do is what was on the room service menu. so we order food from for our mini function from food court down stairs, when asked the hotel if they could bring it to our room, the answer was no the workers union would not allow them. we refused to change rooms and will never stay there again.

  • A beautiful place but service is poor/even poorer at the event

    A beautiful hotel and rooms are well-preserved and beautiful! There are definitely well-staffed in volume of service people and these people are wonderful. But I am sad to report that I believe this goes from top management and what they emphasize as important for the hotel. Several concrete examples.

    1. There is a lobby bar with tables and lounge chairs. We were told that we could not sit in certain section and if we buy a drink at the bar and we cannot sit in the chairs because all employees are unionized and so a bartender cannot take a server's job by allowing you to seat in these areas. Even thought they are short on servers on that day, so it follows the same mentality "i can't do it, but i don't want you to do it either"

    2. we were there to attend an event. The event decorations was amazing and it was beautiful event. However, staff again was very subpar, examples: eating cherries from the bar as the bartender was making our drinks and also one of the guests we don't even know was allergic to diary. the server told her to just remove the cream from the top of food and eat it.

    again, PEOPLE are WONDERFUL and building is beautiful. Like with all management , issues are generated from the top and they are all system problems and not a improblem with individual employee. Clearly, top management is struggling to compete in the high end service industry. This was our first time at the Plaza which charges a high premier for guests to stay there.

    I sincerely hope this review will serve as a "fire" in your next board meeting and help you to bargain for more support to improve your overall service. This is a beautiful structure and I hope your service will improve significantly to come in par with places such as Ritz, St Regis, Four Seasons, to name a several familiar chains that we often stay in and love.
