  • Prepaid for 2 nights and they gave away my room!!!

    I booked my room in advance and prepaid for 2 nights. I'm also a Hilton gold customer. I flew all day and caught an Uber from the airport, in the pouring rain. I drug my luggage in and was looking forward to getting to my warm room, only to have Eric tell me in a very casual way, "We overbooked and don't have a room to you so we're going to send you to a sister company." It wasn't even a sincere apology, just a matter of fact.

    I had selected this hotel specifically, because I needed the perfect location to hold a couple of lunch and dinner meetings in a quality hotel. This was rated #1 at the time so I felt I couldn't go wrong. I stretched the budget and booked it here, even paid in advance. There was no prior notice, no phone call, nothing. Just an "oh, by the way."

    I spent the next 30 minutes on the phone with Amex Platinum and they were as baffled as I was. They'd never heard of such a thing, nor had I. After they finished with the hotel, they advised they would get my refund and I could go elsewhere. I needed a very nice hotel in a very close proximity to this one. And I had no car. All of this is still taking place within feet of the front desk who is trying hard now to ignore me. They didn't even offer me a glass of water or anything, just ignored me and continued checking in guests. I was able to get the hotel manager's cell number and called her. Note, it was between 4:30-5pm when I placed the call. I explained the situation and pleaded with her to help, leaving my cell number. After I went on social media, she did call me the next morning (a day late and a room short) advising she didn't recognize the number so she didn't answer the phone. Well, hello! Did you check your voice message???

    I called the Westin and they were booked. I called the Sheraton and they could not have been more helpful. I walked the 6 city blocks in the rain, dragging my luggage and finally made it to the hotel 90 minutes after I arrived at the Redmont. It has been a week as of today and I'm still waiting for my credit of $585.54 to show up.

    Here's the final explanation I received from the hotel manager. Apparently, when my reservation was made, the Hilton honors number was not included. This is often the case when I have someone else making my reservation for me. Keep in mind, I travel weekly and stay in hotels around the country and this has NEVER happened to me before. According to the hotel manager, they booked 22 rooms and only had 20 available. So, they started with those who weren't Hilton honors members and bumped the two of us. This means that, even though I was a gold, I was bumped by silver and basic members. And that's beside the point. I don't care if I'm gold or whatever, when you book and pay for a room, your reservation should be honored. I followed my part of the deal when I booked the room but they failed miserably. And for that, I got nothing. If that's the way you treat loyal customers, you don't deserve to have a #1 rating. I believe you and your staff still have a few things to learn about quality customer service.

    And for the record, there are many who utilize Trip Advisor as their personal pulpit for one lone complaint. As you can see by my past reviews, the vast majority of my reviews are providing accolades to hotels and employees for a job well done. My credibility is intact.

  • Great stay, great customer service

    Stayed last weekend (early December) and we had an unexpected snow storm. Though our event cancelled, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time being stuck in the hotel. Even, as we left, they were offering coffee to go, etc.

    My husband and I love seeing everything Alabama. I was very excited to see the newly renovated Redmont. We loved seeing the revived architecture and modernized features. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything we needed. Now for the negative- the bedspread, towels and shower mat were worn and stained, strange for a new hotel. The halls were narrow with poorly patched plaster and the lighting was dim in a slightly seedy way not a romantic way. The shower has no place to set the soap or shampoo forcing you to put it in the floor. I opted for the flat shower head only to find another bar or used soap already there. My complaints are superficial but enough to concern me. Hopefully they'll shore this up making this hotel the perfect option for a Birmingham stay.

    Lovely high floor corner room with views of the City. Comfy beds and very smart d?cor. This is how to renovate an old building and keep the features but without compromising on quality! Superb rooftop bar with great views. Very friendly staff. Good location - about a 10 min walk to the civil rights museum and trail and about 10 min walk in the other direction to a number of restaurants.

    Two things which stopped an excellent rating - had no way of contacting the hotel apart from via phone (which isn't much use for people from outside the US) - Curio Chat wouldn't release an email address either. Main reason - valet parking is charged at $22, the car is parked in a $5 a day open air car park literally 5 meters across the road from the hotel - so this 5 meter drive costs $17 per day - very steep especially as when you arrive you aren't offered any option other than valet parking.....so being charged a $17 mark up soured the stay a little.

    Lovely Hotel. Nice room, excellent bathroom with stall shower. good internet connection and excellent breakfasts. Good value, nice location. Small lobby but nice little bar. Free newspapers. Plentiful towels in bathroom.
