The Sagamore

Activities & Events

From the Sagamore Spa to the hotel’s spectacular Donald Ross golf course, the Sagamore offers something for every guest. Tennis on six championship courts is supplemented by instruction by Peter Burwash International (PBI). Sports such as cross-country skiing, ice skating, and sledding occupy the winter, while sailing and a full complement of waterfront activities are available during the summer months. The fitness center is complete with state-of-the-art fitness equipment and daily exercise classes. Scuba, snorkeling and fishing are also available. The Teepee Club entertains younger guests, while Learning Vacations offer the opportunity to pilot a boat or take lessons from world-class chefs.

Recreational Activities:

Biking:

Gore Mountain: Ride the Northwoods Gondola for mountain biking on Gore’s exciting trails and see a spectacular view of the Adirondack peaks. Many of the high peaks are visible on a clear day including Mt. Marcy, New York’s tallest mountain. Helmets are required to ride, and full suspension bikes are recommended.

Warren County Bikeway: For those who are interested in staying on a paved trail, the Warren County Bikeway is a 12-mile scenic trail with rolling hills and great views. The north end of the trail starts in Battlefield Park in Lake George Village at the shores of Lake George.

Kayaking

Lake George Kayak Company: Lake George, labeled “The Queen of American Lakes,” gives the outdoor enthusiast kayaking and hiking options to explore the pristine wilderness and the many beautiful lakes. Kayaking tours are given on different scenic spots on Lake George as well as other lakes located in the Adirondack Park.

Lake Cruises

The Morgan: Set sail aboard the Sagamore’s own replica of a 19th century Hudson River touring boat for lunch, dinner and sightseeing. With stops at Paradise Bay and the Narrows, The Morgan is an ideal venue for your exploration of the lake.

Indian Pipes: Enjoy a captained charter cruise with Indian Pipes, a 36 ft. luxury trawler yacht.

Lake George Steamboat Company: The Lake George Steamboat Company offers lunch, dinner and moonlight cruises on their three large ships: the Minne-Ha-Ha, The Mohican, and the Lake’s largest cruise ship, The Lac du Saint Sacrement.

Shoreline Cruises: Enjoy a cruise on Lake George with a variety of destinations and theme nights to match your interest including excursions on The Horicon, the Ethan Allen, and the Defiance.

Walking and Hiking:

Ausable Chasm: One of the oldest attractions in the U.S., the amazing sights of the Chasm will take your breath away. Enjoy walking along towering cliff walks or through a primeval forest, peering into the gorge or floating the legendary waters of the Ausable River.

Natural Stone Bridge and Caves: For over 200 years, Natural Stone Bridge and Caves has been a favorite of nature lovers and their families. Jacob Van Benthuysen, ancestor of the hotel’s current owners, received the site in the 1700s for Revolutionary War service. This unique natural phenomenon is not only beautiful but also an extraordinarily rare feature of Adirondack geology.

Prospect Mountain: This climb presents a 3-mile steep ascent to the summit of this mountain. On top one can see the full beauty of Lake George. The trail follows in part the roadbed of an old cable car system that served a once-thriving summer hotel on the mountain.

Tongue Mountain: Tongue Mountain is made up of over eighteen miles of New York State-marked foot trails. The trails offer many fine views as they wind along the crest of the mountain.

Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway: An eight-mile climb from the crossroads in Wilmington, the Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway ascends to the summit of the fifth highest mountain in the Adirondacks. The last five miles are the most spectacular as the road winds upward through a changing forest and an alpine summit environment.

Cloudsplitter Scenic Gondola Ride at Whiteface Mountain: Ride the newest and most scenic gondola in North America! The new 8-passenger Cloudsplitter Gondola takes you from the base lodge to the top of Little Whiteface in less than fifteen minutes. The ride takes you over ski trails, wooded areas and scenic overlooks with breathtaking views of the Ausable River, the Adirondack High Peaks, and the Olympic Jumping Complex.

MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex: See some of the top North American ski jumpers perfect their art on the K90 and K120 hills winter and summer. In summertime, the adjacent Kodak Sports Park enables aerial skiers to practice their technique by jumping into a 750,000-gallon pool. Visitors can ride the chairlift alongside the jumping hills and then hop aboard the 26-story elevator to the top of the K120 tower.

Verizon Sports Complex: The Verizon Sports Complex is home to the newest combined track in the world for bobsled, luge, and skeleton racing. It also retains the 1932 / 1980 track for public bobsled rides in summer and winter. Located at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, the site also provides 50 kilometers (31 miles) of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Racing

Saratoga Race Track: For six weeks each summer, the Saratoga Race Course hosts some of the finest thoroughbreds in the world competing for such prestigious prizes as the Travers. Thoroughbred racing debuted in Saratoga Springs in 1863. In 1985, a new grandstand park area was opened, featuring picnic grounds, television monitors, betting windows, and concession stands.

Saratoga Equine Sports Center: Live harness racing is featured 124 racing dates a year. During the winter meet, enjoy weekend afternoon racing; in the spring and summer, it’s evening racing under the lights. Watch the race from the clubhouse or grandstand overlooking the track.

Downhill Skiing

Gore Mountain: Gore’s glades, terrain park and world-class half-pipe offers challenging skiing and snowboarding for all abilities with its ideal mix of 78 trails including 10% beginner, 60% intermediate, and 30% advanced.

West Mountain: Great skiing on 21 trails and a snow tubing park. Excellent ski school with snowboarding and downhill lessons for all ages and levels.

Cross-Country Skiing

Sagamore Nordic Center: Glide over cross country snow-packed trails, take a snowshoe trek, go sledding, or carve figure 8’s at the skating pond located at the resort’s Nordic Center on the grounds of the golf course.

Crandall Park Ski Trails: Enjoy miles of groomed trails for traditional and skating technique cross-country skiing.

Garnet Hill Cross-Country Ski Center: Garnet Hill has over 35 miles of groomed ski trails and unlimited wilderness routes for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing.

Theme Parks

The Great Escape: The Great Escape has thrills for the whole family with its roller coasters and numerous other rides. The park is home to the world famous wooden Comet Roller Coaster. While at The Great Escape, be sure to visit the Splashwater Kingdom to cool off in the giant wave pool!

Magic Forest: Magic Forest is the amusement park for small children and their families. There are 25 rides, including a train with a mile long safari ride. A variety of shows provides entertainment for all ages, including the nation’s only high diving horse.
