  • Nostalgia! Good to re-visit 'The Sagamore' and be pleased all over again.

    by Ron D on 2017-10-16 01:29 pm

The Sagamore is a lovely Hotel with a perfect setting, on a Hill looking down Lake George. Season permitting, included in the Room Fee is a Lake Boat Trip on 'The Morgan', a great Ship that holds 75 people. FYI: Get on line early - 1st come, 1st get! No reservations. The Golf Course is a Donald Ross design- very pretty but beware, very hilly. Food was great. If there in warm temps, have your Breakfast, and Dinner, outside. Lake views! Employees very attentive.
Everything perfect, Fall Foliage not being near Peak. This was during the few days after the Columbus Day Holiday.) Late colors but still pretty.

  • Relaxing and Beautiful for couples or families

We visited this beautiful resort the last weekend of September! What a treat! There is plenty to do; great lounges, and the Italian restaurant offered wonderful food, ambiance, and service. We had the ala carte breakfast on the patio and it was also scrumptious!
There is nothing left to be desired here- from fishing to a man made beach to a boat ride included in your rate!
A must any time of year when visiting the Lake George area.

  • Has potential for more.

My husband and I learned of this Resort via an email from Opal properties. As we have stayed with Opal before, we felt safe booking being satisfied with other locations. We both work tiring jobs and long hours and this being ours anniversary trip, we looked forward to the experience.

The site itself it impressive and we appreciated the "age" of the hotel and the charm it had. It is a spectacular location. It truly lived up to our expectations as far as views and beauty.

Unfortunately, there was no rest for the weary traveler. My suggestion? Inquire before hand if there is a wedding on site the weekend you will be there and ask if your room will be near the reception area. We paid over $500 to essentially be part of the reception with an incredibly loud DJ and then a lengthy fireworks display. The noise ordinance may say the loud fun stops at 10 but the intoxicated guests carry on way into the night. We both had a night of no sleep. The positioning of our room and the shape of the hotel makes it like an amphitheater. A wedding is a wedding and I understand fun but I'd rather have known ahead of time and made a different room selection.

After several calls , tears, and debate my husband and I decided to ditch our second night and move on to Vermont. In the end the hotel gave us 20% off the first night and cancelled the one we didn't stay. They weren't difficult about the issue but it was a deflating experience and a very tiring travel experience as we were coming from Maine.

  • Amazing Family Weekend

    by Toni A on 2017-10-12 02:52 am

This is the third time my husband and I have stayed at The Sagamore for Columbus Day Weekend. However, this time we had all three children with us. They have asked if we can make it a family tradition to stay at The Sagamore every Columbus Day weekend.
The drive through Boltons Landing is just beautiful and quaint but then you enter the resort. On its own private island, you feel as if you are far away from everyday life. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful and there are many amenities. Given the warm weather this October, my children were able to use the beautiful outdoor pool as well as the indoor one. My eldest went fishing off their own dock in the evenings, while my self and the younger two used their Rec Center. It is fully equipped with 2 basketball hoops, and small indoor wiffle ball field, xbox, wii and small indoor mini golf area. Also, my kids took place in a resort Amazing Race style game that allowed us to learn about the hotel and the island.
We have never stayed in the main hotel. We stay in the lodges, which I recommend for any family.
For dining, the off season has options but not as many as during peak season. We ate at their breakfast buffet two days and went into town for one. The buffet at Mr. Brown's offered normal breakfast of eggs, bacon, waffles, etc. it also has smoked salmon with the extras, delicious options of fruit and a bread table that has toast to muffins. Also, Joan and the staff at Mr. Brown were very kind, especially to my children. Dinner we ate in town just to change things up. This resort is well worth every penny you spend. They even give a boat tour of the lake that departs from The Sagamore's dock.
I do suggest that if you are going in the off season to check to see what is open. Times change and certain restaurants are closed. Even the rec center is closed Tuesday to Thursday. Definitely worth the stay!!

  • Potentially great but not on Columbus Day

by ChloeSantaFe on 2017-10-11 06:23 pm

Beautiful building in a beautiful setting but some restaurants were closed while the resort was packed so service was dismal on the holiday. Afterwards it was fine and food was terrific--lobster salad sandwich, meatballs especially noteworthy and at fair prices. Our lake view room (208) was roomy but over an event tent and the crew to set it up at 6 am was an unwelcome intrusion on one day. The boat ride had the potential to be pleasant was it was packed with party animals so we could only partially see and hear the tour features. Our advice-go but not on a holiday and pay for the lake view rooms.
