  • Off-season visit

by thenutkin on 2017-12-09 08:30 am

I can imagine that during the summer months this resort is packed. But in mid-October occupancy was much lower. So, nothing was crowded and we could enjoy lovely walks and a beautiful journey on the Morgan, the old-style boat that tours Lake George.
Our room was cosy and a short walk from the main building.
The food was good to very good even though we had a limited choice of restaurants because most of them were closed at this time of year.
If you book a package, as we did, be sure to keep reminding the staff about what is included or you may miss out on your perks or be charged for something (like a breakfast) that was supposed to be included. Even so, we were charged for our last morning's breakfast. A call to the billing office corrected this mistake.
Despite such annoyances, most of the staff was courteous and helpful.

  • Conference

    by Vernita F on 2017-12-05 04:39 pm

This was the second year we stayed t the resort for a work conference. The staff were extremely friend and warm. The cabin are beautiful, I was overlooking the lake. The cabin was very nicelyset up, with kitchen, large spacious bathroom and fireplace. The ground was so nice with the fall colors, and the restaurants service was great.

  • Overall a very nice resort

    by Steven A on 2017-11-26 11:22 am

My family and I stayed at the Sagamore over Thanksgiving. Overall the resort is pretty and the service I found to be great. I would compare the service to Mohonk or the Ritz. The indoor pool and the rec room is beautiful. They had great family activities like a ginger bread house making and a tree lighting ceremony. We stayed at lodge 1 and thought the extra space is a great for a family. Overall we were happy with the room. The only things I wasn't thrilled about was the shower fan was supper dusty and the red chair in the room looked like it was all bitten up by a dog. I thought that should be replaced immediately. As far as the house keeping goes the girl was very nice who came but I had to call about 4pm to tell housekeeping that my room was never cleaned. Other then those minor suggestions the accommodations were great. I would recommend the lodges for families. It felt like a little apartment.

The food throughout the weekend was great too but there was one small complaint. We ate at the THANKSGIVING buffet which overall was done nicely. The food was pretty good and the service was ok too. Everything was going good until we got the bill at the end of the meal. The waitress told me that there was a 20% gratuity added to the bill but that doesn't go to the staff. That goes to their salary so we should add additional gratuity. Now 20% for a buffet is a lot but it is Thanksgiving and staff does deserve more then normal but to leave an additional 15%-20% is ridiculous. I was not happy about that. My recommendation would be instead of the dinner being $50 a person and add the 20% plus an additional gratuity just make the meal $60 plus gratuity and give the staff the gratuity. I just felt leaving a 40% tip was a little too generous for a buffet dinner. Besides that the weekend went perfectly and we do look forward to returning to the hotel in the near future. Keep up the good work.

    Dear Steven A,

I Thank you for spending your Thanksgiving Holiday with us. I was pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the comments about the staff, food and service. Like you I agree that the fan should be "super clean" not "super dusty" and yes the chair should be replaced! Also, I apologize that our server misrepresented the gratuity. It is actually a service charge and no further tip is needed. I would be happy to adjust your bill accordingly so reach out to me please. In closing, thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to your return.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Guay

  • Cozy Fall weekend at the Sagamore

by auntiebling on 2017-11-24 04:30 am

Booked cheapest rate via links on TripAdvisor and took advantage of the off-season rates. When we checked in we were upgraded to a room in the main hotel and had a partial view of the lake. Hotel is very old & quaint, but it is meticulously maintained The room was a nice size- great bathroom- updated, but kept the vintage tiles. Very charming & cozy. We spent a very cold November weekend away and it was a very relaxing getaway. Can't wait to come back during ski season.

Gore mountain is now open and we have a SKI FOR FREE package which includes 2 adult ski tickets and breakfast daily! Gore continues to make improvements each year and weather willing it promises to be another great season! Thank you once again and we look forward to the snow flying and your return!

  • Romance on Lake George

    by Dreia00 on 2017-11-17 06:54 pm

Boyfriend booked the hotel for a romantic weekend getaway in the fall. It was perfect. The hotel grounds were so pretty right in the lake. It was too cold to enjoy the pool but I'm sure it's very busy in the summer. We got to enjoy fireworks on the lawn compliments of a weddings that was going on which was a great end to a super romantic weekend. We had drinks and breakfast on the resort and they were ok. We walked into town to have lunch, shop and wine taste. Very quaint town to enjoy for the day. Dinner was very delicious and romantic at Chateau on the Lake. Definitely recommend making a reservation. The room and interior of the hotel did seem dated and could use some remodeling.
